Road to the Convention - The Day Before

Well, our first Do The Right Thing Radio Show from Minneapolis is behind us, and now we are at the Convention Center. I have my credentials to get in, and we've met up with Dr. Bill, Sheridan, Doug (Stix Blog) and Chad from Grizzly Groundswell.

We are still getting organized, but I think we've got the sleeping situation worked out and we feel much better than we did late last night/early this morning.

Please be praying for all those in the past of Gustav! This convention is small beans compared to what is going on with that.

More a little later!

Road to the Convention - Update

We are in Minneapolis alive and well - pretty much that is. I won't go into details because it's so late, but our lodging plans were messed up pretty bad, but hey we have a bed to sleep in and it's time to do just that.

Don't forget Do The Right Thing Radio at 1:00 pm eastern Sunday (and every day of the convention). We will recap our trip and fill you in on anything we know about what is going on here in Minnesota.

Cyber Pastor

PS. If you think about it, say a prayer for our friend Forrest Langley (he's the one with the 3 Purple Hearts).

Road to the Convention

The trip to the convention "officially" begins today as Mrs. CP and I left the very hospitable Cyber Crew member Roger and his wife this morning. They were awesome hosts!

At this time we are just outside of Chicago (being past Chicago is a very good thing), and bearing down on the remainder of the trip to the next family who is hosting us, which is Chad and his wife, from Grizzly Groundswell.

I will be making periodical post as we travel and prepare for our first show from the Convention, which will be tomorrow at 1 pm (eastern) time.

As for any excitement on the trip so far, I had the urge to put a derogatory sign about Obama in our window as we were in Chicago, but decided that might not be a good idea. We also saw a Pauliac van who was probably headed the same place we are - oh yeah, I said excitement and that doesn't quite qualify.

I'll be back a little later.

Your friendly Convention correspondent,

Cyber Pastor

Palin is the Choice

Mrs. CP and I just dropped off our youngest daughter for her freshman year of college, and yes we shed a few tears!

We are about to pull into the driveway of Cyber Crew member Roger stopping for the night on our way to Minnesota and the Republican National Convention.

All the talk today was about Palin being chosen for the the VP slot. I'm proud to hear there are some young conservatives on college campuses, as I heard many people talking positive for the "good" guys today.

Palin was not my first choice - or my second choice, but I'm willing to give her a good chance and back the ticket.

CP

I might add that it's great to hear all the excitement over this announcement - but I've always been proud of our country so this so I get excited pretty easy.

Rumors abound of Sarah

Cross posted from ANewtOne.

The cover of Drudge has a McCain/Palin button and sites like this one are saying She has arrived in Dayton. It may just be that John McCain really does want to win this thing after all...... but we will see.

~Sonlit

No official announcement as yet but for all intents and purposes based upon my sources early this morning, John McCain has indeed picked Sarah Palin as his VP running mate.

Stand by for news........

Update: from NewsMax.  H/T to Norm Hooben from an e-mail. Thanks Norm!!

I for one find Nobama's speech repulsive and an insult to my intelligence.
Has DemoRat Demagoguery reached it's pinnacle with "The One"? You decide. Do these people have no shame?
Will they say anything, tell any lie, foist any deception on the American voter to put this man in office? Apparently.

The Ayers-Obama Connection

A cover-up in the making?
By Stanley Kurtz
Posted: Tuesday, August 19, 2008

ARTICLE
National Review Online
Publication Date: August 18, 2008

The problem of Barack Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers will not go away. Ayers and his wife, Bernardine Dohrn were terrorists for the notorious Weather Underground during the turbulent 1960s, turning fugitive when a bomb -- designed to kill army officers in New Jersey -- accidentally exploded in a New York townhouse. Prior to that, Ayers and his cohorts succeeded in bombing the Pentagon. Ayers and Dohrn remain unrepentant for their terrorist past. Ayers was pictured in a 2001 article for Chicago magazine, stomping on an American flag, and told the New York Times just before 9/11 that the notion of the United States as a just and fair and decent place "makes me want to puke." Although Obama actually launched his political career at an event at Ayers's and Dohrn's home, Obama has dismissed Ayers as just "a guy who lives in my neighborhood," and "not somebody who I exchange ideas from on a regular basis." For his part, Ayers refuses to discuss his relationship with Obama.

Although the press has been notably lax about pursuing the matter, the full story of the Obama-Ayers relationship calls the truth of Obama's account seriously into question. When Obama made his first run for political office, articles in both the Chicago Defender and the Hyde Park Herald featured among his qualifications his position as chairman of the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a foundation where Ayers was a founder and guiding force. Obama assumed the Annenberg board chairmanship only months before his first run for office, and almost certainly received the job at the behest of Bill Ayers. During Obama's time as Annenberg board chairman, Ayers's own education projects received substantial funding. Indeed, during its first year, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge struggled with significant concerns about possible conflicts of interest. With a writ to aid Chicago's public schools, the Annenberg challenge played a deeply political role in Chicago's education wars, and as Annenberg board chairman, Obama clearly aligned himself with Ayers's radical views on education issues. With Obama heading up the board and Ayers heading up the other key operating body of the Annenberg Challenge, the two would necessarily have had a close working relationship for years (therefore "exchanging ideas on a regular basis"). So when Ayers and Dorhn hosted that kickoff for the first Obama campaign, it was not a random happenstance, but merely further evidence of a close and ongoing political partnership. Of course, all of this clearly contradicts Obama's dismissal of the significance of his relationship with Ayers.

This much we know from the public record, but a large cache of documents housed in the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), is likely to flesh out the story. That document cache contains the internal files of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. The records in question are extensive, consisting of 132 boxes, containing 947 file folders, a total of about 70 linear feet of material. Not only would these files illuminate the working relationship between Obama and Bill Ayers, they would also provide significant insight into a web of ties linking Obama to various radical organizations, including Obama-approved foundation gifts to political allies. Obama's leadership style and abilities are also sure to be illuminated by the documents in question.

 Cover-Up?
Unfortunately, I don't yet have access to the documents. The Special Collections section of the Richard J. Daley Library agreed to let me read them, but just before I boarded my flight to Chicago, the top library officials mysteriously intervened to bar access. Circumstances strongly suggest the likelihood that Bill Ayers himself may have played a pivotal role in this denial. Ayers has long taught at UIC, where the Chicago Annenberg Challenge offices were housed, rent-free. Ayers likely arranged for the files of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge to be housed in the UIC library, and may well have been consulted during my unsuccessful struggle to gain access to the documents. Let me, then, explain in greater detail what the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC) records are, and how I have been blocked from seeing them.

Initially, as I said, library officials said that I could examine the CAC records. I received this permission both over the phone and in writing. The subsequent denial of access came with a series of evolving explanations. Is this a politically motivated cover-up? Although at this stage it is impossible to know, it is hard to avoid the suspicion. I also have some concerns for the security of the documents, although I have no specific evidence that their security is endangered. In any case, given the relative dearth of information about Barack Obama's political past, there is a powerful public interest in the swift release of these documents.

Access Approved
When I learned that the CAC records were housed at UIC Library, I phoned and was assured by a reference librarian that, although I have no UIC affiliation, I would be permitted to examine the records. He suggested I phone the Special Collections section of the library and set up an appointment with a special collections librarian. This reference librarian also ran a search for me and discovered that, in addition to the CAC records, one file folder in the UIC Chancellor's Office of Community Relations archive contains information on CAC from 1995.

I then spoke with a special-collections librarian and was again assured that I would have access to the CAC records. I was told that, while I could not personally make copies of the material, I could identify documents of interest and have copies made by the library, for a fee. I set up an appointment to meet with the special-collections librarian, and she suggested that I e-mail her the information on the CAC-related chancellor's documents the reference librarian had discovered, and confirm my appointment time. After I did so, this special-collections librarian forwarded my message to a graduate assistant.

The graduate assistant then e-mailed to let me know that, while the CAC collection had been "processed," the "finding aid" had not yet been put online. (The "finding aid" is a detailed document of over 60 pages specifying the topics covered by each of the 947 folders in the collection, and showing which boxes hold which folders.) Because the finding aid was not yet online, the graduate assistant attached a copy to her e-mail, inviting me to browse it and identify documents of particular interest, so that the library could have some of the CAC material out and ready for me immediately upon my arrival. I wrote back indicating that I would like to see the single CAC-related folder from the chancellor's archive, and further identifying 14 boxes from the main body of CAC records containing folders of special interest. Having received clear and repeated representations from the UIC library staff that I would be granted access to the CAC records, I arranged a trip to Chicago.

Access Denied
What follows is more detail than some readers may want to know, but it seems important to get it on record. If a body of material potentially damaging to Barack Obama is being improperly embargoed by a library, the details matter.

Just before my plane took off, I received an e-mail from the special-collections librarian informing me that she had "checked our collection file" and determined that "access to the collection is closed." I would be permitted to view the single CAC-related file from the Office of the Chancellor records, but nothing from the CAC records proper. I quickly wrote back, expressing surprise and disappointment. I noted that I had arranged my trip based on the library's assurances of access, and followed up with questions about whether access was being denied because I was unaffiliated with UIC. I also asked who had authority over access to the collection, suggesting that I might be able to contact them and request permission to view it.

After arriving in Chicago, I found a message, not from the special-collections librarian, but from Ann C. Weller, professor and head, Special Collections Department. In answer to my question of who had authority over access to the collection, Weller said, that "the decision was made by me" in consultation with the library director. Weller stated that no one currently has access to the collection and added that: "The Collection is closed because it has come to our attention that there is restricted material in the collection. Once the collection has been processed it will be open to any patron interested in viewing it."

I responded to Weller by recounting the clear and repeated representations I had received from library staff that I would be granted access to the collection, adding that I had arranged my trip in large part because of these assurances. I then noted that I had studied the CAC finding aid with considerable care. It was clear from that finding aid, I said, that only five out of the 947 folders were in any way restricted. Four folders, containing auditor's reports, where clearly marked, in bold type, "THESE FOLDERS ARE RESTRICTED VIA ANNENBERG CHALLENGE until further notice." A fifth folder, containing records of eight CAC Board of Directors meetings in 1995, when CAC was first set up, had a notation nearby with the word, "Consent." It would be a simple matter, I said, to pull these five folders, allow me access to the remaining 942 folders, and contact the relevant authority for consent to view the records of the 1995 board meetings. After all, I added, Weller herself had said that, other than the restricted folders, the collection ought to be open to all patrons.

I also pointed out to Weller that she had not quite entirely answered my earlier question about who has authority over access to the collection. So I asked who, precisely, holds the authority to bar or permit access to the restricted folders. I added the following thought: "Libraries, of course, exist, not to restrict information, but to make it available to the public. I would hate to think that UIC library was doing anything less than all it could to permit public access to these important materials."

Weller replied to this message by dropping the restricted documents issue and saying instead that the donor of the CAC records "has alerted us to the fact that we do not have a signed deed of gift." According to Weller, this means that UIC's library has no legal right to make the material available. The donor, said Weller, is now working with UIC library to resolve the problem, and "we hope to be able to provide access within the next few weeks."

Replying to Weller, I briefly noted some elements of her account that I found puzzling. I added that Weller had still not answered my question about who the donor is, and/or who holds controlling authority over the collection. I closed by alerting the library to my intention to come in that day to examine the single CAC-related folder from the chancellor's records that I did have permission to see. Later that day, I examined that one folder, took notes, and asked for the entire folder's contents to be copied and mailed to me. I have received no further reply to my reiterated question about the identity of the donor.

Shifting Story
There are a number of disturbing elements to this story. Recall that, according to the graduate assistant, the collection had, in fact, already been "processed." Yet Weller's initial message to me used the unprocessed state of the collection as a reason for restricting access. And when I pointed out how easy it would be to remove the restricted files, Weller quickly came up with yet another reason to block access. At the moment, I have no way of verifying Weller's claim that the library has no signed deed of gift, but how likely is it that a collection of such size and importance would have been housed in the library, and listed in publicly accessible international library catalogues, without this very basic detail having been attended to? It's also puzzling that UIC now raises the absence of any formal agreement with the donor -- and thus the absence of any formal restrictions by the donor -- as a reason to deny access to a collection placed in library custody precisely to facilitate public access.

The question of who the donor is and/or who holds formal authority over access to the collection, is also critical. It's notable that after trying to ascertain this information several times, I have still not received a proper reply. One obvious question is whether Bill Ayers and perhaps even Barack Obama himself may be connected to the donor. Obama began his CAC board chairmanship in early 1995, and stepped down from the chairmanship in late 1999, though he remained on the board until CAC phased itself out of existence in 2001. At that time, CAC handed over its remaining assets to a permanent new institution, the Chicago Public Education Fund. Obama served on this Fund's "Leadership Council," from 2001 through 2004, overlapping with council service by Bill Ayers's father, Thomas, and Ayers's brother, John. Bill Ayers, as noted, was a CAC founder, its guiding force, and co-chaired CAC's powerful "collaborative." CAC appears to have been housed at UIC because of Ayers's connection to the school.

So informally, and perhaps formally, it would appear that both Ayers and Obama may be closely connected to the donor of the CAC records. In fact, Ayers himself may be the donor. In raising her belated point about the absence of a signed deed of gift, Ann Weller indicated that she had been alerted to the fact by the donor, and would henceforth be working with the donor to provide access "within the next few weeks." One can at least speculate that Weller might have been in touch with her UIC colleague, Bill Ayers, either because he actually holds formal authority as donor, or because he is granted de facto authority over the papers by whatever entity has formal control. One can also speculate that, as former CAC board chair, board member, and as an official of CAC's successor organization, Barack Obama himself might have had, or may still have, some sort of formal or informal role in this process. Could this help explain why I have never received a clear answer to my question about the identity of the donor?

Obama and Annenberg
I expect to follow up this piece with an examination of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge and what it suggests about Obama's personal, financial, and ideological ties with Bill Ayers. I will also discuss what Obama's CAC connection might suggest about Obama's links to various radical groups, about the political character of his service at various foundations, and about his leadership record. I treated some of these issues in "Inside Obama's Acorn," and have just explored them, using new material, in an article in the current issue of National Review, entitled "Senator Stealth." Further information on the Obama-Ayers connection can be found in "Barack Obama's Lost Years." Of course there is no substitute for access to the CAC records, but at over 60 pages, the extremely detailed "finding aid" to the CAC records by itself provides important new information that helps extend our understanding of Obama's political past. I will shortly have more to say about what the finding aid reveals. And while there were no major revelations in it, the contents of the folder from the chancellor's archive are also of some interest.

We already know a good deal about Obama's service at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. That information paints a disturbing picture, and one sharply at odds with Obama's claim that Bill Ayers was just "a guy who lives in my neighborhood." A number of bloggers, including, for example, Tom Maguire, at Just One Minute, have done excellent work on the CAC issue. (See here and here.) But the key reporting on the Obama-Ayers connection via the Chicago Annenberg Challenge has been done by Steve Diamond, at Global Labor and Politics. (See especially this important post of June 18, 2008.) Sad to say, the mainstream media has almost entirely ignored the issues so powerfully raised by Diamond, and discussed at length by various bloggers, even though Obama's service at the Chicago Annenberg Challenge raises serious questions about the veracity of his account of his relationship with Ayers. Access to the CAC records promises to provide a treasure trove of documentary evidence fronting on this and many other critically important issues, from Obama's policy views, to his political-ideological alliances, to his leadership abilities.

Access and Security
There will be time for substantive discussion later. The immediate concern is to swiftly gain public access to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge records, and to ensure the security of these documents in the meantime. Despite UIC library's claim that it hopes to be able to provide access within the next few weeks, the apparently shifting and contradictory character of their reasons for denying access have left me with a low level of confidence in these assurances.

I intend to continue my efforts to examine the Chicago Annenberg Challenge records, to take notes, and to order extensive photocopies, to be mailed to me and/or received personally by me, in a timely fashion. I call on the UIC library to take extraordinary steps to secure the documents until such time as this issue is resolved. The public needs clear assurances that none of the CAC records have been, or will be, damaged or removed. I call on UIC library to reveal the name of the donor of the CAC records and/or to specify the person, persons, or body that currently hold authority over these records. I also call on Barack Obama to voice support for the swift release of these records.

Libraries are designed, not to unduly restrict information, but to make it available to an interested public. This country is now mere months away from a momentous presidential election in which a central issue is the political background and character of a relatively young and unknown senator. The Chicago Annenberg Challenge records almost surely contain important information on Senator Obama's political associations, policy views, ideological leanings, and leadership ability. His role as board chairman of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge is the most important executive experience Obama has held to date. Given this, the public has an urgent right to know what is in the Chicago Annenberg Challenge records.

If you agree, then please write to the president of the University of Illinois system, B. Joseph White. Ask him to take immediate public steps to insure the safety of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge records, to release the identity of the Collection's donor, and above all to swiftly make the Collection available to me, and to the public at large. You can find an email link for White here. Telephone, fax, and mailing addresses for White's offices can be found here.

Holy Spirit Leads In BTR Convention!

This is one of those - "I've got to share stories"

Below will be email correspondence I had today and links to shows and websites that you really need to go to. If you have to pick and choose, I'm suggesting going to eeevil conservative's show from Thursday which will be linked below, because that's what this post is about. The others need to be on your "must listen" list as well.

CP

eeevil conservative,

I got the following email from a friend who listened to last night's show. I haven't asked his permission to share his name yet (fixing to in a minute) but I thought you would want to see this.

Our God is an AWESOME God!

Pastor Ed aka Cyber Pastor

------------

Tonight while listening to the Heading Right Convention on BTR, by telephone of course, I was overwhelmed with looking up Ecclesiastes 3,specifically verses 1 through 8. As I read this I realized the words had to be spoken or read at some point in the show. But how?

Knowing I was merely a listener and not a speaker I sat there in front of my computer trying to figure out a way to get this read online. I prayed at the same time about this.

Lo and behold while EeevilConservative, was talking she began reading these very verses I had my Bible opened to. It nearly knocked me out of my chair it was so powerful as to what had just taken place.

There is no doubt in my mind that this came from God and was not just mere coincidence. The joy this brought to me is immeasurable and in fact awe inspiring.

While this may not seem like a big deal it was more than that to me. I felt the tremendous power of the Holy Spirit tonight and the Almighty power of God the Father throughout this entire presentation.

It leaves me with the knowledge that we truly are involved in something stunningly important and right.

I had to share this with you all perhaps as a way to reinforce in your minds and hearts that what it is we do and why we do it is absolutely key to the survival of our nation.

God bless America.

WOW!

In light of this-- I must share this with you--

I was contacted by Shane a few days before this event-- he asked me what the title of my speech was.

I had NO idea at that point--I was scared to even think about what my speech would be, because I still didn't understand what the people who organized this were looking for.

But-- It Is Time just literally popped into my head-- I typed it in, and sent off my answer.

I spent 2 nights tossing and turning, wondering why I picked that title, and what I could say that fit that title.

I had a few thoughts-- but none of them felt right.

I knew that on Tuesday- I had to go to this speaking event, and figured I would throw my ideas at my friend as we drove to the college.

Guess what-- we never talked about it. It never came up.

Part of me was stressing that I had nothing prepared for my speech, but I just stayed focused on the University speech.

I know now, why-- I know it was GOD. I was so moved by my experience- I knew I had to share it.

THEN-- about 15 minutes before my scheduled time to speak-- I remembered this verse. I quickly looked it up-- and decided to start with it.

God moved in a big way that day. I am so blessed that He allowed me to be an instrument and tool for His GLORY, and I am so thrilled that the HOLY SPIRIT spoke to me so clearly....

Thank you so much for sharing this with me....

We all need to know sometimes that when we listened to that voice, that God was in control.

In my eyes-- this was a miracle that God performed, and He used MANY - including those students, etc, to fulfill His will.

In His service

Press Release from Grizzly Groundswell

Grizzly Groundswell Coming to 2008 Republican National Convention

Chad Everson, creator of GrizzlyGroundswell.com has organized an internet media event to cover the 2008 Republican National Convention (RNC). Cyber Pastor and Mrs CP, owner of Do The Right Thing Radio, will be participating in this event each day at 1:00 pm (eastern) at their Blog Talk Radio page.

Interested parties from across the nation are encouraged to call into the radio shows to ask questions about happenings at the RNC, including whether or not the news articles appearing in their area are accurate.

Everson said the Internet media event has a three-pronged purpose: 1) to hold traditional media sources accountable for the way they report the convention, 2) to validate Internet resources like blogs as a serious form of media, and 3) to create a groundswell of conservative political ideas that will influence upcoming elections and policies.

"If you remember how Television changed politics with the first televised Presidential debate, not necessarily for the better, With our Grizzly Groundswell Strategy, we have the potential to change politics in a good way, a Main Street Media way! We are unleashing conservative thought, voice and image with this online media empire." Everson said.

Preparing For The Republican National Conventio

Mrs. CP and I are busy making preparations for our trip to St. Paul, Minnesota to cover the Republican National Convention. On Friday, we will be leaving to take our youngest daughter and dropping her off to start her freshman year at a wonderful Christian university.

From there, we will be heading to Minnesota. We will be staying at the home of Chad Everson, founder of The Grizzly Groundswell, along with several other bloggers who have been credentialed for the convention.

Beginning Sunday, and every day of the Convention, we will be hosting a Do The Right Thing Radio program at 1:00 pm eastern time. There will also be numerous posts right here on our blog.

So, if you want to get reporting straight from the Convention floor that the Lame Stream Media won't bring - this is the place to be.

We are also working in cooperation with the three groups who we have widgets in the left hand column: Grizzly Groundswell, Heading Right Radio, and Let's Get This Right - three fantastic groups of conservatives who are committed to bringing you, our loyal readers and listeners, the truth that you won't read or hear anywhere other than the "New Media".

I would also be remiss to not give a great big thank you to those folks in the Cyber Crew and others who have helped make this trip a reality with their financial assistance.

We look forward to seeing you live from St. Paul!

PS. I wish we were traveling in the Vets for Freedom bus in the picture, but that was just a good photo op for me.

Latest from the Russell Brigade

Dear Brigade Member:

I want you to be the first to see our new television spot, "Defend the Heroes," which answers Congressman Murtha's public indictment of United StatesMarines. The video is a "worst of" highlight reel from his 2006 national media tour - much of the footage beamed the world hot spots in the Middle East.

As you may know, after a thorough military investigation, nearly all of the men Mr. Murtha accused of having "killed innocent civilians in cold blood" have been exonerated. Still, he refuses to apologize or correct the public record.

Friends, I'll fight for any citizen's right to speak, including Jack Murtha. But I also believe it's our obligation to correct the record when elected leaders stray from the facts.

That's what this ad is about - setting the record straight, and honoring true heroes.

Nancy Pelosi is a Liar

On Meet the Depressed...er...Press this morning...
MR. BROKAW: Senator Obama saying the question of when life begins is above his pay grade, whether you're looking at it scientifically or theologically. If he were to come to you and say, "Help me out here, Madame Speaker. When does life begin?" what would you tell him?

REP. PELOSI: I would say that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, this is an issue that I have studied for a long time. And what I know is, over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to make that definition. And Senator--St. Augustine said at three months. We don't know. The point is, is that it shouldn't have an impact on the woman's right to choose. Roe v. Wade talks about very clear definitions of when the child--first trimester, certain considerations; second trimester; not so third trimester. There's very clear distinctions. This isn't about abortion on demand, it's about a careful, careful consideration of all factors and--to--that a woman has to make with her doctor and her god. And so I don't think anybody can tell you when life begins, human life begins. As I say, the Catholic Church for centuries has been discussing this, and there are those who've decided...

Nancy Pelosi Lied On National TV About The Catholic Church's Position On Abortion

Topics: Political News and commentaries

Clearly, unequivocally, and no possible doubt whatsoever, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is either a babbling idiot who makes claims and says things with no thought whatsoever as to the validity of her statements, or she callously and blatantly lied on Meet the Press today while attempting to spin the Catholic doctrine on human life.

Pelosi has decided on her own that Pope Benedict's warning that Catholic politicians that support abortion risked excommunication from the Church and should not receive communion if they support abortion. She actually told Tom Brokaw that as an ardent, practicing Catholic, she has studied the issue of abortion for a long time and she knows that over the centuries, the doctors of the church have not been able to "make that definition."
... St. Augustine said at three months. We don't know. The point is, is that it shouldn't have an impact on the woman's right to choose. Roe v. Wade talks about very clear definitions of when the child-first trimester, certain considerations; second trimester; not so third trimester. There's very clear distinctions. This isn't about abortion on demand, it's about a careful, careful consideration of all factors and-to-that a woman has to make with her doctor and her god. And so I don't think anybody can tell you when life begins, human life begins. As I say, the Catholic Church for centuries has been discussing this, and there are those who've decided...
She even goes on to say that the Catholic Church's present position on the pill began 50 years ago with the event of the pill.
Pelosi is so typical of the liberal Democrats. They see the world and life as they want to see it, and express their distorted perceptions as such, and seldom, if ever, see the world and life as it really is based on the facts and uncontested truth.

For the benefit of Madam Pelosi and the Democratic Party, Church writings specifically naming abortion as murder appear as early as 70 AD in the Didache, the first written catechism of the Christian church, and in spite of the attempts of various writers and groups, and even some church authorities and a few popes to the contrary, the history of the position of the Catholic Church that abortion is murder and that it is evil dates back as early as the Didache and remains the same to this day. And as for Pelosi deciding on her own what the position of the Church is at the time of her sitting before Brokaw based upon her own readings and interpretations - if in fact she actually did so, perhaps as a practicing Catholic, as she so claims to be, instead, might consider following her faith as her Pope and mine, Pope Benedict XVI, proclaims. (Which is what a "practicing" Catholic does)

By the way, one cannot honestly say they are a "practicing catholic" and support abortion. Each position unequivocally disqualifies the other.

Wafa Sultan on Sharia Law

Video link: Walfa Sultan on Sharia 2008

Under Sharia law your civil rights become null and void. Women become second class citizens, gays are executed, drinking that beer at home is forbidden, freedom to practice the religion of your choice or no religion at all will be replaced by mandatory following of the Qur'an and Islam
All the liberties we in the West take for granted will be removed by force if necessary and all of it merely on the basis of gender, religion, or other groups you might identify with.

How many times do we need to be warned before you do something about it while there is still time? Ignoring it won't make it go away and if you think it can't or won't happen here, THINK again. It has already begun.
Follow the video link at the top of this post, listen to someone who has lived under Sharia law and watch the other video's at the web site listed above.

Do something instead of sitting there, losing yourself in some time wasting television program or telling yourself you can't do anything about it. Can you write a letter? Can you make phone calls? Can you read? Can you speak to your neighbors? Can you talk to your friends?

Don't tell me you can't do anything about it.

From Cassandra to Jesus Christ, it is amazing how often the doomed choose to ignore those who warn them of their coming fate. ~Snooper~

OP:ED - A Solution for America That Will Work

Cross Posted with permission from "Rants and Raves".

A SOLUTION FOR AMERICA THAT WILL WORK

Posted by Glenn Flowers
The people of the USA are all angry and totally fed up with the actions of Congress. The approval rating for Congress has dropped to 11% while Geoge W. Bush's rating has climbed to 30%. Still, the majority members in both houses keep blaming our current woes on the failed policies of the Bush administration.

We all know that the overwhelming cause for the high cost of fuel and everything that depends on fuel is the scarce supply. We also know that if the oil companies in America were allowed to explore for and produce those resources we know to exist within our borders, the increased supply on the world market would push prices down and that would cause a reduction in price in the markets as a whole. We know who it is that has been the biggest factor in the severe reduction in America's oil production in recent years.

We know that Congress routinely votes themselves pay raises, seldom acts in the best interest
of the people, and spends a lot of time on subjects they should not be involved in.

The democrat majority has accomplished nothing since the last election except to deepen the financial crunch the people find themselves in, and the republicans have just sat back and done nothing substantial to help the people.

Both sides in both houses of Congress are equally to blame for the state of America today and the majority of Americans from all parties are looking for a way for the people to
assert their constitutional authority over their out of control government. Well, there is only one way by which the people of America can control Congress, and that is voting on election day.

But just voting isn't going to do anything. The people of America have to realize that the politicians have created and promoted the division between the two parties in order to keep Americans from agreeing with voters from the opposite party and voting for common
policies that would cause real change in the way congress operates. We have been made to believe that Democrat and Republican voters have nothing in common and are opposite in their views of what America should be.

This is a false notion used to keep voters from uniting and demanding Congress respond to the will of the people. All statistics from every source show that just over 60% of registered voters in America hold a view of America that is center to just right of center. Very few are far right or far left. This means that most Americans agree with each other on what needs to be done for America to remain strong politically, militarily, and economically.

Knowing that most Americans are disgusted with a greedy, non-responsive Congress, and knowing that the majority of Americans agree on what America should be, and knowing that the only means we have of changing our government for the better is to vote, the
following conclusion is logical, obvious, and a sound method to affect the change needed.

We, the People, the common voting citizens who believe it necessary to change the way Congress operates, need to agree that we all want what is best for America and her people and then decide to replace every member of Congress in both houses and of both parties by
not voting for the re-election of any present member, but to vote for a non-incumbent, preferably non-politician for every seat in the senate and house of representatives in every election until no member exists with more than one term in office. This will effectively destroy the long time good ole' boy cliques and elite power holders who have lost touch with the people they were elected to represent.

It will put into power a group of more motivated people who will be more representative of the people than of their own interests. Seeing the manner in which they were elected over the more famous and powerful career politicians will be a message to them that we, the People still hold the power over the government and that knowledge will tend to make them more willing to do what is in the best interests of Americans.

This is the only effective power we still hold as citizens, and it can only be effective if we all unite in a majority block for a single purpose and vote for a single result. The old patriotic truth of "United we stand, divided we fall," applies directly to the common voting people of America.

Only by each voter deciding to vote for a new congress will this change take place. There is no need to vote for a candidate from a party other than yours, or to compromise your
political ideals. There is only the need to vote for a candidate who is NOT already a member. No re-elections is our goal. We all know this is needed, we all know we have the means to make it happen. Let's all, Democrats and Republicans, Independents and Libertarians, resolve to make the change that will return our government to our control.

VOTE ALL THE BUMS OUT OF OFFICE!!

VOTE IN A NEW CONGRESS!!

RETAKE CONTROL OF OUR NATION IN A VOTER'S REVOLT!!

IT IS OUR LAST AND ONLY HOPE TO SAVE AMERICA FROM RUIN!!

Make the decision to elect a new congress. Tell your friends we can make a difference if we all vote to replace the corrupt congress in power. It requires only that we all agree as to what the problem is,and agree that this action will, at least, rid us of the entrenched fat cat politicians who have created the problems we all face. If the new congress is ineffective, we can replace them just as easily. At least we won't have the thieves and liars in power that we have now, and that is a major improvement anyone would welcome.

ALL VOTERS OF AMERICA UNITE AND USE THE POWER THAT WE HAVE LEFT TO SAVE AMERICA.

MAKE A DECISION TO DO WHAT IS BEST FOR AMERICA AND ITS PEOPLE.

VOTE THE BUMS OUT, ALL OF THEM!!

WE CAN DO IT, SO LET'S MAKE IT A REALITY.

VOTE FOR A NEW CONGRESS BY REFUSING TO RE-ELECT ANY CURRENT MEMBER.

I hope the simplicity and urgency of this action is understood by all Americans. We can do this if we all use our voting power.

Sincerely,

Glenn Flowers

This post was emailed to me and recommended by our very own Cyber Crew member - Garry. Here is what his email said:

Cyber Pastor, herein is a post I ran across at TH from Glen Flowers' "Rants and Raves".

It coincides with a line of thinking I've been coming back to off and on for the past two years, (since the '06 elections).

It is what I consider to be well written and speaks to the issue of what is foundationally wrong in a government which is badly disconnected from both reality and the people it is sworn to serve.

Garry

While I personally do not advocate voting every single member of Congress out of office. I certainly understand the feelings that they have failed in the overall job of running that part of government, and in large numbers, the suggestions of Mr. Flowers would be a welcome "CHANGE" - since that seems to once again be the keyword of this election.

Thank you Mr. Flowers - I wish everyone had the same passion you do for our great nation!

Catholic group denounces Obama's pick of Biden for V.P.

I get One News Now's daily update, and Miss Beth pointed this out in an email as well. If you don't already subscribe, I would highly recommend doing so.

CP

Catholic group denounces Obama's pick of Biden for V.P.

Fred Jackson- OneNewsNow - 8/23/2008 6:40:00 AM

The Roman Catholic group, Fidelis, says Barack Obama's selection of pro-abortion Catholic Joe Biden to be his V.P. running mate "is a slap in the face to Catholic voters" and poses a major challenge for American Catholics.

In a press release sent out overnight, Fidelis president, Brian Burch, declared that Barack Obama has "re-opened a wound among American Catholics" by picking a pro-abortion Catholic politician like Joe Biden.

According to Burch, the American Catholic bishops have made it clear that Catholic political leaders must defend the dignity of every human person, including the unborn.

" Sadly, Joe Biden's tenure in the United States Senate has been marked by steadfast support for legal abortion" he added.

During the recent Democratic primary campaign Biden said: I am a long-standing supporter of Roe v Wade and a woman's right to choose."

Burch notes that in 2004, John Kerry's support of abortion sparked a nationwide controversey over whether Catholics who support legal abortion can receive communion.

Burch says "now, everywhere Biden campaigns, we'll have this question of whether a pro-abortion Catholic can receive Communion."

"Senator Biden is an unrepentant supporter of abortion in direct opposition to the church he claims as his own. Selecting a pro-abortion Catholic is a slap in the face to Catholic voters," said Burch.

According to Burch, "The American bishops have instructed Catholic voters to consider many issues, but have characterized the defense of human life as foundational and have explained that the issue has a special claim on the conscience of the Catholic voter. This means that a political candidate like Biden, because of his strong support for abortion rights, forfeits any claim for support despite his views on other issues like health care and the economy."

Email from McCain Camp

This email from McCain's campaign manager shows that politics makes for strange bedfellows. Nobiden didn't seem to be very impressed with Nobama just a few short months ago!

I removed the part that was asking for money, but I like the aggressiveness of the email!

CP

Just hours ago Senator Barack Obama announced he has chosen Senator Joe Biden as his running-mate, adding his own harshest critic to the Democratic ticket. Senator Obama's choice in a running-mate once again brings up his questionable judgment when faced with making major decisions.

Senator Biden doesn't believe that Senator Obama is ready to serve as president. When asked about Senator Obama's lack of experience he said, "The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training."

The fact is, there has been no harsher critic of Senator Obama's lack of readiness to serve than his new running-mate, Senator Joe Biden.Senator Biden has long been a leading critic of Senator Obama's lack of foreign policy experience. He's criticized Senator Obama for his lack of leadership and judgment on Iraq, Afghanistan and his commitment to meet unconditionally with the leaders of rogue states.

We can't risk electing Senator Barack Obama in November and you can make a difference today. Senator Obama lacks the judgment to be our next president and he's simply not ready to lead.

John McCain has made tough, but necessary judgment calls throughout his entire career - always putting country before self interest. He has the experience necessary to serve as our next Commander in Chief. He's ready to lead - ready to put your needs above his own, but he won't win in November without your immediate support. Please join our campaign by making a donation right away.

Sincerely,

Rick Davis
Campaign Manager

P.S. Senator Obama has chosen Senator Joe Biden as his running-mate; a man who doesn't believe he's ready to lead as president. Senator Obama's poor judgment calls indicate he's not ready to lead as president. It's essential for our next president to have good judgment and to put the needs of others above all else. And that friends, is what John McCain has done and is prepared to do for all of us.

Assorted TV commentators keep opining that the Olympics are all about the brotherhood of man, rather than national ambition or patriotism. But don't tell that to the fanatically nationalist Chinese -- or to Kobe Bryant, the NBA star who is playing with Team USA in Beijing.
[Kobe Bryant]
AP

In an interview Friday on NBC, the world's most famous basketball player told Chris Collinsworth how he got "goosebumps" when he received his Olympics uniform. "I actually just looked at it for a while. I just held it there and I laid it across my bed and I just stared at it for a few minutes; just because as a kid growing up this is the ultimate, ultimate in basketball." The Los Angeles Laker went on to call the U.S. "the greatest country in the world. It has given us so many great opportunities, and it's just a sense of pride that you have; that you say, 'You know what? Our country is the best.'"

Mr. Collinsworth seemed either startled or impressed by such sentiment, and asked, "Is that a cool thing to say in this day and age? That you love your country, and that you're fighting for the red, white and blue? It seems sort of like a day gone by."

To which Mr. Bryant replied: "No, it's a cool thing for me to say. I feel great about it, and I'm not ashamed to say it. I mean, this is a tremendous honor."

Cynics will claim that this is merely about marketing, with Mr. Bryant hoping to use the Games to burnish his public image. On the other hand, he and his rich teammates on the basketball squad are giving up their offseason to play for nothing save possible medals. Mr. Bryant has also been an enthusiastic spectator for other U.S. Olympians, waving the Stars and Stripes at various events.

To the kind of Americans who consider themselves primarily "citizens of the world," nationalism at the Olympics is déclassé, even embarrassing. We're with Kobe.

Biden Chosen as Obama's VP Running Mate

Cross posted from Spree's WUA.

After stringing out the news for as long as he could, Barack Obama finally sent the messages that everyone was waiting for that announced Joe Biden as his running mate, but it was too late and very anti-climatic because the news had already filtered through that a secret service detail had been dispatched to Joe Biden's house to protect the Barack Obama choice as a running mate.

The announcement, via email, when it finally came through said:

I have some important news that I want to make official.

I've chosen Joe Biden to be my running mate.

Joe and I will appear for the first time as running mates this afternoon in Springfield, Illinois -- the same place this campaign began more than 19 months ago.

I'm excited about hitting the campaign trail with Joe, but the two of us can't do this alone. We need your help to keep building this movement for change.

Please let Joe know that you're glad he's part of our team. Share your personal welcome note and we'll make sure he gets it:

http://my.barackobama.com/welcomejoe

Thanks for your support,

Barack

P.S. -- Make sure to turn on your TV at 2:00 p.m. Central Time to join us or watch online at http://www.BarackObama.com.
As I predicted yesterday when writing about the secret service being dispatched to Biden's residence, examples of Joe Biden's words about Barack Obama's inexperience, said during the Democratic primaries, is already being used to remind people exactly what Biden said.

Via Hot Air:

John McCain. At 6:06 am ET this morning, Team McCain sent out its newest television spot, welcoming Joe Biden to the race — and reminding voters what Biden thought about Barack Obama just a few months ago:

YouTube URL for video here.

Text of the new ad:

ANNCR: What does Barack Obama’s running mate say about Barack Obama?

ABC’S GEORGE STEPHANOPOULOS: You were asked, “Is he ready?” You said, “I think he can be ready but right now, I don’t believe he is. The presidency is not something that lends itself to on-the-job training.”

JOE BIDEN: I think that I stand by the statement.

ANNCR: And what does he say about John McCain?

BIDEN: I would be honored to run with or against John McCain, because I think the country would be better off.
This was expected and now Obama has a strong running mate that will publicly be seen in ad after ad saying he is not ready and that he would would be "honored" to run with or against McCain.

More from NYT, AP, Wapo's The Fix, and The Politico.

[Update] Andrew Malcolm from Top of the Ticket has the quote of the say:
