Steele Says Republican Party Has 'Turned the Corner'

RNC Chairman Michael Steele says the GOP has owned up to the mistakes that caused its fall from power and is embarking on a new chapter.

Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele on Tuesday hailed the beginning of a Republican "renaissance," calling on the GOP to stop apologizing for itself and focus on winning.

Steele delivered a speech on the future of the party to state GOP chairmen gathering outside Washington for a special meeting Wednesday of the Republican National Committee. But Steele steered away from addressing the lingering internal conflicts that could hinder his call for party unity.

A small, but vocal, minority of Republican National Committee members is trying to undermine Steele's authority over party funding, and Steele told FOX News ahead of his speech that if they, do he'll step aside.

"They can contemplate all they want to, but the reality is, if they want a figurehead chairman you can have a figurehead chairman, but it won't be Michael Steele," he said.

Steele aides insist the chairman was not threatening to quit, but merely to fight to retain his authority.

The issue comes up for a vote Wednesday. For now, RNC members are expected to re-establish standards that already had been in place before they lapsed last year. Among them is a requirement that Steele have a co-signer for all expenditures above $100,000 and that a comptroller-treasurer administer funding.

Steele already had agreed to those standards. What he objected to was the possibility of increasing the powers of the comptroller-treasurer, in turn minimizing his own authority. That issue will probably be pushed off until July, but it's not going away yet.

The Republican National Committee chief is seeking to re-establish himself as the head of the beleaguered party and set its course. His speech comes after a rocky start to his two-year term that drew criticism from some longtime RNC members as well as a sustained Democratic campaign tagging conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh as the GOP's titular head.

In Tuesday's speech, Steele likened President Obama's popularity to that of a celebrity and said Republicans can't be afraid of criticizing him head-on if they want to regain their relevance.

"He's young. He's cool. He's hip ... he's got all the qualities America likes in a celebrity, so of course he's going to be popular," Steele told state party chairmen Tuesday. But "this is not American Idol. This is serious ... and we are going to take them on."

Steele said the GOP has owned up to the mistakes that caused its fall from power and is embarking on a "renaissance."

"The era of apologizing for Republican mistakes of the past is now officially over," he said. "We have turned the corner. No more looking in the rearview mirror. From this point forward, we will focus all of our energies on winning the future."

He also was opposing a resolution -- whose final wording hadn't yet been set but was expected for a vote Wednesday -- in which Republicans would rename the Democratic Party as a "Nationalist Socialist Democrat" party.

Steele and others said the party should focus its efforts elsewhere.

"I think it's stupid," Florida GOP Chairman James Greer said of the name resolution. "These are trying times. We need to be serious."

Greer and other state chairmen said Steele, who drew a loud standing ovation at Tuesday's speech, continues to enjoy strong support among most party leaders.

"Obviously there was going to be a learning curve but I certainly support Chairman Steele. I like the fact that he's going on offense," said Alabama Chairman Mike Hubbard. "I think everybody's willing to give (him) some time."

Steele is trying to steer a GOP that's out of power in the White House, Congress and a slew of statehouses across the country. The party also has no natural successor to former President George W. Bush. And the GOP is in the midst of an intense debate over its identity while facing an emboldened Democratic Party that's grown larger under Obama's leadership -- at the Republicans' expense.

Steele played down the obstacles and claimed the GOP's comeback is "well under way" in the states. But he said people in Washington don't recognize it yet.

"Republicans may be the minority party at the moment, but we represent the ideas and concerns of the majority of Americans," Steele said. "Candidate Obama was very moderate in his views, but President Obama could not possibly be further to the far left."

Steele said the GOP will take on Obama with class and dignity, unlike the "shabby and classless way" Democrats took on Bush.

When I saw him give his speech at last years Republican National Convention, I totally enjoyed his energy! Even when others have started calling for his ouster, I declined. However, in light of these most recent remarks - I am now on the side of those who are calling for Michael Steele to resign as the Republican National Committee Chairman. There is no place in the conservative movement for people that have the beliefs that Steele expressed in the GQ interview.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is under fire from social conservatives for telling GQ magazine that abortion is an "individual choice" and homosexuality is not.

Despite declaring to GQ that women have the right to choose an abortion, Republican National Committee (RNC) chairman Michael Steele has issued a statement saying he has always been pro-life and supports a constitutional amendment to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Matt Barber, director of cultural affairs for Liberty Counsel and Liberty Alliance Action, says in Steele's interview with GQ, he "sounded like he was on the payroll of Planned Parenthood."

"I'm encouraged that Michael Steele is on record now in support of the human life amendment. However, for the life of me I cannot imagine why he would have chosen to use the euphemistic language of choice. That's language that they came up with in the smoky back room of Planned Parenthood somewhere to try to hide the reality of what abortion is," he contends. "There is no such thing as pro-choice. You're either pro-abortion or anti-abortion."

Barber admits he is also troubled that Steele told GQ that believing homosexuality is a choice is equivalent to saying, "Tomorrow morning I'm going to stop being black."

"I am starting to wonder whether Michael Steele is on the payroll of the RNC or whether he's on the payroll of the [Democratic National Committee], because that sounds like something that Howard Dean or any spokesman for the Human Rights Campaign or the radical homosexual lobby would have said," he adds. "There's no science to support the notion that people are born homosexual."

Barber says it appears Steele and the Republican Party are going to continue making the same mistakes that landed them in the minority and are causing them to "spiral into the abyss of political irrelevancy."

"This is Michael Steele, Chairman of the Republican National Committee. Democrats have controlled both branches of government for less than a month. And you have to wonder if all that power has gone to their heads.

"For the last two weeks, they've been trying to force a massive spending bill through Congress under the guise of economic relief.

"All of us -- Republicans and Democrats -- agree the government must act to kick-start the American economy. American families are doing their best to balance their own budgets and pay their mortgages.

"The fastest way to help those families is by letting them keep more of the money they earn. Individual empowerment: that's how you stimulate the economy.

"But the Democrats have a different philosophy. Instead of leaving money in the family checkbook, they want to send it to Washington, run it through a slow and inefficient government, and hope that does some good.

"When families keep the money, they spend it, save it, or invest it.

And the private sector economy benefits when families and businesses buy consumer goods or invest it for the future. But when Washington spends the money, some of it may flow into the economy, but all too often, much gets wasted.

"Democrats in Congress want a one-trillion dollar spending bill.

You've heard about the pork-barrel programs they want to fund... 45 million dollars for ATV trails and removal of fish passage barriers is one that caught my eye. Exactly what is a fish passage barrier and why does it cost 45 million dollars to stimulate the economy with it?

"That's why Republicans in the House voted against uncontrolled spending. This is not a bragging point, but rather a statement that at least Republicans would stand with the American taxpayer.

"But voting 'no' is not enough... and Republicans have offered innovative ideas to help struggling families and small businesses. We've offered plans to spark job creation and investment through lower taxes, to stop the taxation of unemployment benefits, and to help Americans keep their jobs and their homes.

"The comprehensive Republican plan would lower taxes for all working American families. If you're married, the first 16,750 dollars you make this year will be taxed at ten percent. Why don't we cut that rate in half to give instant buying power to every working American family?

"Good ideas... lots of them... all left out of this plan by the Democrats in Congress.

"Republicans stand ready to work with reasonable Democrats to do what is right for America.

"But it will take more than bipartisan words from the President. It will require fair-minded action from Democrats in Congress.

"Thanks for listening."

Republicrats Flock to Obama

The new year has already witnessed an unseemly rush on the part of some Republicans to cozy up to President Barack Obama. Sucked in by the lights, the parties, the adoring fans, and of course the fawning "paparazzi," these politicians have traded loyalty to the convictions of their constituents for pilgrimage to kiss the ring of the one whom Farrakhan called "the messiah."

Where did the train fly off the track folks? If Obama couldn't be trusted prior to the election, as even Senator John McCain indicated, or if he supported all methods of abortion and opposed the Second Amendment prior to the election, as Obama's own record indicated he did in both cases, then he is still an untrustworthy, pro-abortion, anti-gunner. Getting elected did not change these things.

Was Obama guilty of "palling around with terrorists" as Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin said he was in the months leading up to the 2008 elections? Sure he was. His relations with William Ayers were common knowledge. So guess what? He is no less guilty of that now; getting elected didn't change that either.

So why did McCain spend his concession speech rattling on about how good the election of Obama was for our nation? Why is no less a "conservative stalwart" than Newt Gingrich now praising Obama? Why did some of the prominent "conservatives" who had dinner with Obama at George Will's house on January 13, 2009, emerge from that dinner awed by Obama's persona, wishing him the best and believing he might accomplish great things? What great things can a politician who has more in common with Vladimir Lenin than Ronald Reagan accomplish that's worthy of praise from people who claim to be conservative?

No doubt they would say that they hope to moderate the left wing politics of Obama by joining together with him. But a man with solid Democrat control of Congress and a honeymoon ahead is far more likely to influence them, and use them to paste a bipartisan veneer on his radical agenda.

During the last few days it has become known that McCain has actually been behind the scenes helping Obama, advising and conferring with him on various nominees for the upcoming hard-left administration. And Gingrich has had a soft spot for Obama since early 2008, when he described him as "another J.F.K."

In December 2008 Gingrich actually criticized RNC chair Mike Duncan because Duncan dared to ask whether Obama might have ties to Illinois Governor Blagojevich's attempts to sell Obama's former senate seat. Why isn't that a fair question Mr. Gingrich? Time has demonstrated that some of Obama's close friends were associated with the mess; and Obama's proposed Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel seems to have talked to Blagojevich before the case broke.

When CNBC's Larry Kudlow emerged from dinner at Will's house describing Obama as "charming" and talking about how he was so overwhelmed by Obama's presence that he couldn't even remember what they had for dinner, I felt as if I were going to be sick. And that feeling was taken to a whole new level upon reading that "Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina and former Sens. John Warner of Virginia and Chuck Hagel of Nebraska" had agreed to attend an Obama dinner on inauguration eve, at which McCain and Vice President Joe Biden would be honored. As with Obama, what could a conservative possibly have in common with Biden? How can these people be so desperate to sit with the "in" crowd? With all respect Mr. Kudlow, Obama has no interest in dealing with both sides of the issue, but he will be happy to avail himself of gullible Republicans.

I fear that the Republicans seeking Obama's favor may not even be far enough right of center on the political spectrum to merit the badge of RINO (Republican In Name Only). Rather, it would be safer to refer to such gullible, attention-starved men as "Republicrats." Neither left nor right in their ideology, they're simply guided by their desire to be part of something that draws the praise of the Sunday morning news programs.

Do these men stand for anything? Is this our future? Some neutered, mixed-political breed that claims to be something it is not in order to get elected and then forgets those claims as soon as the newest, more popular thing comes along?

If this phenomenon took place in any other facet of life people would be outraged. Just imagine going to an NFL game where your team's quarterback purposely threw the ball to the other team in order to see them do well; he would be benched if not kicked off the team in short order. Catch one of our military personnel supporting the enemy and he will be tried for treason. Discover a doctor injecting sickness instead of treating it and he will lose his right to practice and face imprisonment. But let entrenched, inside the beltway politicians trade their dignity and sell out their party to shake hands with Obama while cameras flash and no one blinks an eye.

One Republicrat, former McCain campaign manager Rick Davis, is so desperate for relevance in the Obama-centered world that he gave BBC an interview on January 15, 2009, in which he said: "I hope [Obama] does exactly the kind of job that John McCain would have accomplished for the country." Many of us are scared he'll do just that Mr. Davis.

While Republicrats like Graham, Gingrich, Hagel, Kudlow, McCain, and Warner, among others, are clearing their calendars to make room for a handshake with the "messiah," conservatives are bewildered over the enthusiasm surrounding a leftist whose stated intention is to "remake America." I for one thought our Founders did an excellent job of making America the first time around, and would rather see their vision upheld instead of altered.

It would behoove us to share the sentiment of Rush Limbaugh in hoping Obama's presidency fails. For when the cameras quit flashing and the dinners are over, and all these Republicrats realize they've just been pawns in Obama's game, the "legacy" a successful Obama administration would leave behind will be characterized by socialized and government-rationed healthcare, drastic military cuts, tax increases, attacks on the Second Amendment, and environmentalism run amuck.

Certainly even a dinner with the President at George Will's house isn't worth it if the result is turning a blind eye to the passage of such an agenda.

As the dust settles on what many are calling an "historic" election, the soul-searching has already begun in Republican circles on how to rebuild. Let us be clear: the Republican Party is in shambles, and a top-to-bottom house-cleaning is in order.

But, before we simply "throw the bums out," we must understand exactly what went wrong and not be misled by the media or certain political pundits. The Republican Party thrives (as does America) when it is driven by conservative ideals and a reformist vision. Step away from that recipe, and the Republican Party becomes "Democrat-light," and we all know where that has led.

In watching the election coverage on Fox News, one particular topic was discussed over and over again. The question was posed, "Is America, which has generally been a center-right country now turning into a center-left country?" The answer is an unequivocal NO. We are a center-right country which was governed by a center-left Washington. When things went bad in Washington, and Americans started looking for "change," most legislators with an "R" next to their name became a target. The center-right country wanted center-right government, and the Republicans didn't deliver. Period.

There are three main events which have shaped my outlook of America and approach to politics. First, as someone who grew up in the 1980s, Ronald Reagan was the first president who connected with me. Yes, I have memories of the Iran hostage crisis under Jimmy Carter, and his speech when America boycotted the Olympics in Moscow in 1980, but it was Reagan who was president during my high school and college years. It is the America in the eye of Reagan that became a part of who I am. An America of optimism, an America of conservative ideals -- one which would not back down in the face of turmoil.

Another of the three events that shaped my outlook is the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. As many know, I was in Washington, DC that day. After hearing reports of the two airliners being flown into the World Trade Center in New York, I knew America was under terrorist attack. It was with that realization that I then saw American Airlines Flight 77 fly overhead and smash into the Pentagon with a terrifying explosion. The events of that day and America's singular unity and response showed what our nation can do when put to the test. We can come together, and we can lead the world.

The third event was the Republican Revolution of 1994. Although Reagan helped shape my outlook for what America could be, I had no real interest in politics. The 1992 election piqued my interest a bit, but when I realized the problems facing the country and how the Republicans were putting together a plan that was reformist in nature and conservative by philosophy, I was hooked. I jumped right in and helped on a congressional race, and I have been involved ever since.

So, it is with a heavy heart that I review what has happened not only this week, but over the last several years. Republicans didn't lose on Tuesday. We were simply given our report card for the last eight years. When we stopped being reformists and conservatives, we stopped being the party that could govern.

Republicans (under a conservative banner) do NOT support big government. What ever happened to the idea of local control? By embracing big government programs like the prescription drug plan and no child left behind, the Republicans in Washington started adopting the liberal philosophy of "what can government do for you?" The answer is that it is doing too much, costing too much, and taking away my freedoms.

Republicans (under a conservative banner) support the rule of law and the protection of our borders. As soon as Republican leaders such as President Bush and Sen. John McCain started falling in line with Ted Kennedy and other illegal alien amnesty programs, the nation as a whole rebelled. Legislation when down in flames thanks to mass protests by the American people, and what was the follow-up? More legislation. How about protecting America and the American people?

Republicans (under a conservative banner) support returning tax money to the taxpayers, not keeping it in Washington to pay for pork projects. As more and more Republicans joined the list of those taking earmarks for ridiculous programs, the label of "reformist" ceased to apply. Tax money belongs in the hands of taxpayers, not in the hands of Washington beaurucrats.

We need to get back to our roots, and we need leaders who represent those values. In this past election, Obama won in-part by trumpeting a tax cut for 95% of the American people. The claim was patently false, but the point is that he promoted a tax-cutting message. McCain never mounted a serious message on tax cuts. Rather than having the courage to really explain the tax situation to the American people and tell them that Republicans will not pit one economic class against another and that "fair" tax cuts mean tax cuts for all, McCain eventually joined the Obama bandwagon and only talked about tax cuts for the "middle class."

When was the last time we actually had a conservative nominee? Well... that's too long. We don't need "fresh" ideas or a make-over of our philosophy. We simply need to return to our conservative roots and have leaders and spokespeople who will promote those ideals. Kudos to Rush and Hannity during the last two years for stepping up more for conservative ideals even if it meant calling Republicans to task. As we proceed with the house-cleaning, maybe Fox News can finally get rid of Fred Barnes and Bill Kristol. They are useless and do not represent conservatism. They represent elitist Republicanism which led to part of the decline. When Fred Barnes calls House Republicans idiots for standing up for conservative principles regarding the financial bail-out, he's got to go.

There are so many aspects to analyze, but another point to mention is that when Republicans come to power and are only focused on keeping power, the light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train. The last eight years showed that we could win the presidency, but at what cost. The conservative movement was crushed. I will write more on what needs to be done as we move forward, but moving forward without studying what went wrong is foolish. In short, when the Republican Party is led by a conservative core, then America, as a center-right nation, will embrace the party and its ideals. If we are corrupt, embrace big government, push for earmarks, and don't respect the rule of law, then America will turn away. America needs the real Republican Party... and I want it back.

MoveOn plans to ‘push back hard’ against House GOP

Liberal
group MoveOn.org is urging its supporters to “push back hard” against
House Republicans who have been seeking to pressure Speaker Nancy
Pelosi (D-Calif.) to allow a vote on offshore drilling.

Although
the House is in recess, several Republicans on Friday and Monday have
taken to the floor of the chamber to discuss the country’s energy woes
and demand that Pelosi bring back the House and give the GOP an up or
down vote on expanding domestic oil production.

Now MoveOn is planning to get involved.

“Republicans
have been escalating their attacks on [Democratic presidential
candidate Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.)] and the Democrats over oil
drilling, and we need to push back hard,” the group said in an e-mail
to supporters, asking them to come to a 4 p.m. rally at the Capitol.

“Speaker
Pelosi blocked their plan because it won't help lower gas prices—but it
will line the pockets of Big Oil executives, the same people donating
millions of dollars to Republicans,” the e-mail said. “But Republicans
are working hard to make it seem like they're fighting for
cash-strapped commuters—and not the oil companies who wrote their plan.”

The group plans to point to the ties between the GOP and Big Oil.

“We’ve
invited the media, and having a good crowd is critical to show them
that voters don’t want oil industry gimmicks—they want real solutions
like alternative energy to solve our energy crisis,” the e-mail said.

MoveOn
acknowledged that “Republicans have been dominating the debate around
gas prices for weeks with their sham drilling plan,” adding that the
House protest is “getting a lot of press coverage.”

Earlier today, there was a mini-uprising that we haven't seen the GOP perform in nearly 14 years. Our blog posts on this topic and event can be seen, in order as they were published, here, here, here, and our evening BTR show here. It all started on our afternoon BTR show here and then it went to Media Lizzy's show, our evening show already mentioned, and then went on to Political Vindication and mdconservative and it will end at the JPA Live show. What was the fuss?

Pelosi's failed and the worse ever in recorded history CONgress voted to go on vacation with a vote of 213 to 197 instead of staying and addressing by an overwhelming mandate by the American People the skyrocketing costs of fuel. While they trapse off to vacation land, Americans are paying higher and higher fuel costs at the pump. The record of adjournment is here.

I am not exactly sure just what in the hell Twitter is but Media Lizzy has a link here to follow this story throughout the day. AS an adjunct to that, here is a link from Scott's Morning Brew describing the no comments requested of the Nazi Pelosi.

The Crypt Blog at Politico is the only one that I know of that live-blogged the event. WND was also writing about this and so was the Washington Wire. Our very own Sonlit Knight actually traveled to DC to cover the event but the Capital Police would not allow him to go inside and said that the tourists, wearing Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts going in and out of the building were Congressional Staff members...he smelled and saw the lies. He asked if Nazi Pelosi really had the CP escort people out of the building and they did their best SGT Schultz imitations which equates to a yes.

The democrats could not afford to be forced or inconvenienced to go on the record - a Congressional record - as being against getting the American People cheaper fuel. However, the Congressional ban on offshore drilling expires on the last day of September so they will then be forced to address this issue.

In the mean time, we need to NOT drop this issue and continue to call, write and contact our Congress Critters as they are now home in their respective districts. We CANNOT drop the ball on this. This is too important. What has happened is this: the Democrats have been put on notice and the American people now know which party cares and gives a damn about the American people. It certainly is NOT the Democrats.

There will be more to say, write and read about in the coming days leading up to the elections in November and th democrats have handed the election to the Republicans. I would not be surprised if Nazi Pelosi and her ilk of liars and charlatans fall below the 6% approval rating within a week or so.

Democrats Go Against Public Opinion By Blocking Offshore Drilling Proposals

As gas prices rise, the topic of offshore drilling is rapidly becoming an issue going into the November elections. John McCain has recently come out in support of offshore drilling and Barack Obama is against it. Public opinion is favoring McCain's stance.

Gas prices have soared over the last year and as the totals at the pump become apparent to the voting public, their opinion about offshore drilling has shown that the majority, in a variety of recent polls, want Congress to lift their ban on offshore drilling.

Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi and the Senate Majority leader Harry Reid have been refusing to allow bills that pertain to the issue to come up, which has caused gridlock in the Senate as Republicans fight to have amendments dealing with the issue, be heard.

Republicans, for the most part, have united behind McCain regarding offshore drilling and some blue dog democrats, have indicated that will vote for it as well, which spawned reports that Pelosi was facing a "rank and file" threat.

This forces Pelosi and Reid to use procedural maneuvers to stop the issue from coming to a vote.

This puts them smack dab against the rising numbers and the majority of Americans that are ready for the ban against offshore drilling that has been in place since 1981, to be lifted.

Starting with the June 19, 2008 Rasmussen poll, it shows that 62 percent of Americans agree that offshore drilling should be allowed, with only 27 percent not agreeing.

Zogby International's numbers, taken seven days later, show an even larger majority (74 percent) support offshore drilling.

That includes 90 percent of Republicans and 75 percent of Independents and among Democrats, the majority with 58 percent support offshore drilling.



A vast majority of likely voters, across the political spectrum are in support of offshore drilling, which pits the Democratic leadership against the will of the people.

In a recent CNN poll a plurality (49 percent) said that the environment was more important than the economy, yet in that same poll 73 percent of those surveyed said they favor increased offshore drilling for oil and natural gas.

A polling organization that have done the numbers for Florida states have also come up with a majority showing a preference for offshore drilling, even in their own state.

The InsiderAdvantage/Poll Position asked Florida voters, "Do you favor or oppose increased exploration and production of oil and natural gas off the coasts of Florida?"

61 percent were in favor of exploring the coast of Florida for oil and natural gas.

President George Bush has stepped up the pressure on Congress by lifting the presidential ban on offshore drilling and called on Congress to lift theirs.

John McCain and many Republicans, seeing the concern of citizens and a politically winning issue, have done half of a flip flop on the issue. I say half because McCain is against the majority that believe that ANWAR should also be explored, but with the rising costs of gas, food and inflation in all areas connected with the cost of gas, rank and file Republicans united behind McCain on this issue.



Blue dog Democrats aka Democratic Blue Dog Coalition are Democratic politicians who do not always vote according to party line, but instead try for a more centrist position and they are the threat to the Democratic leadership of the House and Senate because they are increasingly starting to support offshore drilling.

This not only pits Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid against the the will of the people, but also is causing tension within the Democratic party.

To overcome the Democratic leaderships refusal to bring the offshore drilling bills up for a vote, the Republicans are countering that by using their own procedural motions to see to it that no bill will come up until Congress and the Senate allow debate and vote on their amendments for offshore drilling.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) states, "We think there is nothing more important that we can do right now than to deal with the Number One issue of the country. This is the biggest issue since terrorism right after 9/11. People are pounding on their desks, saying, Why don’t these people get together and do something about this problem?”

The battle in the House has been intense as Pelosi has failed to get the two-thirds majority needed to pass Democratic bills under a suspension of the rules, which limits debate on the issue and prevents Republicans from offering drilling amendments.

Republicans blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from bringing up the bill under regular order, where a simple majority would have been required to pass the bills, but Republicans would have been able to offer amendments calling for increased domestic drilling.

Boehner says of the Democrats, "They're hiding from a vote. They're scared to death to allow us to ... force their members to vote on drilling."

On the other side of the aisle Democratic Representative Ed Markey says, "Republicans are holding the SPRO hostage. They are not going to allow [any oil] to be released until they get everything they want. And that is a very sad state of affairs."

The tensions are also rising in the Senate and it was reported last week that Harry Reid lashed out at the media saying the medias reports on the state of the Senate's energy fight had been improperly relayed to the public and accused them of only reporting what the Republicans were saying and suggested to the reporters gathered that they should start watching the Senate proceedings.

When a reporter pointed out that she had been watching the Senate proceedings and still could not fathom what Reid was offering Republicans by way of amendments, Reid replied, "Turn up your hearing aid. It was clear for those of us who understand English."

The Politico reports that even Democratic aides are admitting that Harry Reid is "bitter".

Reid has also taken to asking liberal bloggers to help him get his message out.

With the November presidential election just months away, politically the Republicans see this as a winning issue with House Minority Leader John Boehner, (R-OH.) stating, "I've never seen the American people as energized about an issue in my 18 years in Congress."

With the recent polling data showing that an overwhelming majority of Americans are stepping up and stating they are in support of offshore drilling, this seems to be putting the Democratic leadership in the minority by blocking amendments and votes regarding this issue.
