Mother Files Suit After 'Born Alive' Abortion

CBNNews.com - On July 20, 2006, Sycloria Williams gave birth to a baby girl she once thought would never be born.

The then 18-year-old had paid $1,200 to terminate her 23-week pregnancy. The abortion doctor, Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacque Renelique, was to perform the procedure at the GYN Diagnostic Center in Hialeah, Fla., just outside Miami.

But Williams went into labor early and delivered a live birth, according to her and the Florida Department of Health. After seeing the baby, she had a change of heart.

To her shock, however, instead of putting the baby into a care unit, one of the clinic's owners cut the child's umbilical cord, placed her in a biohazard bag, and threw her away, lawyers representing Williams say.

Now, she is suing 13 medical workers, including the clinic owner Belkis Gonzalez and Dr. Renelique for "unlicensed and unauthorized medical practices, botched abortions, evasive tactics, false medical records and the killing, hiding and disposing" of the baby.

"The baby was just treated as a piece of garbage," said Tom Brejcha, president of The Thomas More Society, which is overseeing Williams' case. They argue that the doctors' performance constitutes murder.

Renelique's attorney, Joseph Harrison, told The Associated Press he thought the allegations were "misguided and incomplete."

An Ongoing Act?

Police found the remains of Williams' daughter about a week after the botched abortion. An autopsy confirmed that her baby's lungs had filled with air before she was put in the bag, meaning she was born alive, the Department of Health said.

Jill Stanek, executive director of BornAliveTruth.org, told CBN News cases like Williams' sadly happen more often than reported.

"This is going on rampantly around the country," she charged.

Stanek co-sponsored the release of 22 Weeks, a short film based on the case of another Florida woman whose baby was born alive at an abortion clinic. That baby then died after doctors
refused to care for the child.

She believes that it's not unusual for doctors to have charts and medical records changed to show babies as "still-born" when they are really "born alive."

Hope for Justice

Stanek said Florida authorities have been "squeamish" about handling any case involving the possible murder of a child. She has discussed Williams' situation and others on her WorldNetDaily column.

"I have spoken with the police who are a part of the investigation and they are very upset," she claimed. "They've been trying to get prosecutors to work on this case for a long time."

In order to prosecute on murder charges, authorities have to prove Williams' baby was indeed born alive.Meanwhile, the Department of Health has called for the Florida Board of Medicine to strip Renelique of his license. The group will hold a hearing Friday to decide whether the doctor can continue his practice.

Records show Renelique received his medical training at the State University of Haiti and completed his residency in 1991 at Interfaith Medical Center in New York.

Reports in that state also reveal Renelique has made at least five medical malpractice payments in the last 10 years, though details behind the cases are unclear.

Acknowledgment of 60 years of so-called American crimes against Iran. A formal apology to the Iranian people. And a withdrawal of support for Israel. Are these the kinds of demeaning, unrealistic and guilt-tripping demands we can expect from the Iranian government once direct negotiations begin with the Obama administration? If so, are negotiations even worth it? Especially when the Iranian regime has made abundantly clear that acquiring a nuclear weapon and destroying Israel is the divine, unwavering mission of the Islamic republic. From The Telegraph:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad demanded on Wednesday that US President Barack Obama apologise for the "crimes" committed by the United States against Iran over the past 60 years.The hardline leader also called on Washington to withdraw its troops from across the world as a proof of Mr Obama's commitment to change.

"You were standing against the Iranian people in the past 60 years," Mr Ahmadinejad said during an address in the western region of Khermenshah that was broadcast by state television.

"Those who speak of change must apologise to the Iranian people and try to repair their past bad acts and the crimes they committed against Iran."

As to the troops, he said he expected two kinds of "deep and fundamental" change.

"Meet people, talk to them with respect and put an end to the expansionist policies. If you talk about change it must put an end to the US military presence in the world, withdraw your troops and take them back inside your borders."

Mr Ahmadinejad said the advocates of change must "stop supporting the Zionists, outlaws and criminals".

He called on the United States to "stop interfering in other people's affairs".

He also said the US government should "let the American people decide their own future ... Stop pressuring them," he added, without saying what he was referring to.

Mr Ahmadinejad said he welcomed change but the "change has to be fundamental".

"If someone wants to talk with us in the language that (George W) Bush used ... even if he uses new words, our response will be the same that we gave to Bush during the past years," he added.

Looks like Iran isn't ready to "unclench its fist" just yet.

'Merry Christmas' Billboards Prove Popular - U.S. - CBN News

Three Ohio women have launched a unique campaign urging people to say "Merry Christmas" more and "Happy Holidays" less. It's their attempt to keep Christ in Christmas.

Three women took a leap of faith and did something about it after they had grown tired of hearing the phrase "Happy Holidays."

"I don't know why it's politically incorrect to say 'Merry Christmas,'" said Joanne Brown. "I want to keep Christ in this. This is what it's all about. This is his birthday."

Last year, the three raised money to buy billboard space to convey the real reason for season. The messages read, 'It's OK to say Merry Christmas' and 'I miss hearing you say Merry Christmas.' Both billboards were signed by Jesus.

The idea caught on and donations poured in, allowing the women to post a total of four billboards last year.

"We prayed for one and we had hoped that we would get one billboard, and we actually ended up with the four," Brown explained.

This year, the three women have raised even more money, sponsoring ten red and white "Merry Christmas' billboards.

"[The] comments and the letters we've received have been extremely supportive," said Pat See. "The money that's come in has told us that a lot of people agree with the message."

The ladies hope to reach at least 135,000 people a day with the billboard.
