Poem: There Is Only One God

There is only one GOD

Our one GOD should always be first on our mind,

and if we do, then going through live we will find.

That our GOD and His Son, is all that we need,

when it is on the word of GOD that we daily feed.

Jesus is the one that we should put all our faith in,

since GOD had His Son die for all the world's sin.

I do not fear death, my faith is in your staff and rod,

I know Jesus is my Savior, and you are my GOD.

Tribute to my friend: Jim Tindell (1960 - 2009)

James R. Tindell, 48, Columbus
James R. Tindell, 48, of Columbus, Indiana died at 9:30 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2009, at his home.

Mr. Tindell was a Reserve Officer with the Hope Police Department, was retired as a deputy from the Bartholomew County Sheriff's Department and was a former Deputy Coroner. He also served as a paramedic for Athens Ambulance Service and as a security officer at Ceraland. For over 10 years he had coached Northside Middle School football and assisted coaching North High School football. He was a 1978 graduate of Columbus East High School and attended IUPUI and Ivy Tech.

Mr. Tindell was a member of Camon Masonic Lodge of Hope. He was a former member of East Columbus Volunteer Fire Department and Fraternal Order of Police. He was an avid fan of all sports, especially the Green Bay Packers, and loved to hunt.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Pastor Ed Boston officiating. Calling will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday and from 10:00 a.m. Tuesday to service time. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Shop with a Cop or James R. Tindell Trust Fund for Northside Middle School Football Program.

Mr. Tindell was born April 2, 1960 in Seymour, the son of August and Sandra Albert Tindell. He married Julie M. Miller May 23, 1981 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, of Columbus; his parents, of Columbus; a son, James Ray (Lisa Madden) Tindell of Columbus; daughters, Anna Marie (Randy) Hammond of Columbus and Cassandra May Tindell, at home; a brother, Jeff (Kim) Tindell of Columbus; a sister, Penny (Ronnie) Ritter of Edinburgh; nine nieces and 10 nephews; and grandchildren, Peyton and Parker Hammond of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by Grandma and Grandpa Merrert, Grandma and Grandpa Albert, and mother-in-law, Joanne Miller.

Rob is with God now
Well, today Rob went to be with the Lord. Last night his ICP's went really high and they took him for another CT scan. The scan results were devastating. So, we decided to let him go Home. He went very painlessly and quickly. I don't know when his funeral will be but it will be in Nebraska in my hometown. I will let you all know the details when I get them. Thank so all so much for the thousands of prayers you sent for my husband. We now have an angel looking over us.

A Friend's Wife Passed Away

Tears in my eyes

Because a friend

has lost his mate

but it is not forever!

There will come a day

When they will be together

And on that day

They will kiss as never before.

Their hearts will be one

As they wished they were

When they lived on earth

But were separated by the wall

The Wall comes tumbling down

No separation on that day

No sin will come between

Passing of Rep. Julia Carson

Julia Carson, Indiana Congresswoman, dies of lung cancer at age 69.

It's rare for me to blog about a Democrat, and let me even say this from the beginning - I was neither a fan nor a supporter of the late Julia Carson, who passed away Saturday after fighting lung cancer.

It's also rare in today's political climate for me to say that even though I made the statement above, I will also say I respected Rep. Carson for many things!

Julia Carson was a fighter! She has been fighting different health battles for several years, just like she fought for the people she represented in her 7th Indiana district. Many times I would see her on the news and shake my head at one of her positions I disagreed with, but you couldn't help but like her spunk!

In an editorial in the Indianapolis Star it says,

"She worked hard for her constituents, often through debilitating illness. She voted her convictions. And she took raps -- for her ideological stance, her attendance and her sometimes bare-knuckled campaigning."

In the same article, former Congressman Andrew Jacobs, Jr., who was her predecessor said,

"She doesn't represent poor people; she represents justice," Jacobs said near the end of her career. "She knows rich people can be treated unjustly by their government as well."

If anyone was ever an example that where you come from doesn't have to dictate what you make of yourself. Rep. Carson was it - as this bit of background on her shows:

Born in poverty and racial segregation to a teenage single mother, Julia Porter Carson rose rung by rung to power and prestige via urban grass-roots politics. Along the way, she never forgot whence she came -- or,
more precisely, she never left. A failed marriage left her to rear two children and two grandchildren as a single mother. The perspective she commanded was rare in an elected official; and it was sympathetic without being
sentimental.

Representative Julia Carson's body will lay in state at the Indiana Statehouse Rotunda on Friday.
