Hope Above the Headlines

Cyber Monday

By Jerry Brecheisen

I am a "Cyber Monday" Survivor. For what it's worth (a lot), I also survived "Black Friday"-the day after Thanksgiving that puts retailers in the black and shoppers in the red. Friday was a slam dunk for me. I would rather have my teeth cleaned by an orangutan with a garden rake than do combat with a grandmother in the 80% OFF aisle of a toy store. Besides, last year I lost a decisive battle over a plastic vacation home for my granddaughter's Polly Pocket family.

Analysts say sales were up by seventy-percent on Cyber Monday. Now if the heart could soar as high as the blip on the screens of Madison Avenue, the picture would be brighter. It can. It is only a God-woven thought away. Even when the Dow dives the sun rises. Even when the turmoil rocks the boat the Captain is still at the pilot wheel. Red ink or crimson blood can't cover the prevailing promise. And enemy curses will not deafen the echoes of a covenant that lasts infinitely longer than a final sigh.
"I will confirm my covenant with you and your descendants after you, from generation to generation. This is the everlasting covenant: I will always be your God and the God of your descendants after you" (Genesis 17:7 NLT).

Royal Anniversary
By Jerry Brecheisen

“Love found a voice,” the actress quoted from her poem to the Queen and Mr. Windsor. Sixty years of marriage is being celebrated by the Royal family this week. But the party begs the question, “What do you buy a queen for her anniversary?” Prince Phillip probably has never heard the words “Will that be paper or plastic?” I really don’t know, but I imagine the last time he did his own shopping Winston Churchill was stocking shelves at a hardware store to earn money for a vacation in Munich.

Picking out an anniversary gift for a queen really isn’t that difficult. I picked one for my Queen Carol several months ago. No matter its cost, it was a paltry token for the honor of walking beside her for nineteen years shy of a royal anniversary.

But I really do like the “Love found a voice” line. Now that’s a find! Take the inexpressible and wrap it in the unfathomable, and then waft it over the life of another like golden leaves singing in an autumn wind. Perfection? Not if you think a dollar-more discount on something means more than knowing when you have everything. To say “Let us give thanks” begs the question, “Why on earth not?” “Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever” (1 Chronicles 16:34 NLT).

Cyber Pastor's Daily Deciblez!!!

Cyber Pastor, with his son, and grandson earlier this year at Red Lobster! My son makes a good uncle as he holds the newest member of our family. Time flies, as my grandson is 6 months old this week.

OK, I know, the posts have been not be plentiful the last couple of days, and we've not had a post from Dean in a couple of days too. Too much from here to even put in print, and Dean has been real busy as well, so I encouraged him to take his time before the next post in the series, Israel, America's Greatest Ally!

A couple of my posts today have financial solicitations with them. I am not, and I don't believe I ever have, ask my readers to contribute funds for a cause. I'm not asking here either! However, I wanted to include the links to give folks an opportunity to give if they wish. So, I'm not asking or encouraging, but the links are they if you so choose.

It is still Veteran's Awareness Week, and in the next paragraph I want to tell you about my friend who is a Korean War vet. He was in Field Artillery and still has ringing in his ears from all the noise.

I want to give a special mention to my good friend and the veteran I mentioned , Eugene, who turned 76 today. It's not just because of his birthday being today, but at 12:40 am, his sister passed away. I know what it's like to have a close member of my family die on my birthday. So Happy Birthday, Eugene, and may Nellie rest in peace!
