Aaron Hankins Suspends Campaign For Congress

I am proud and saddened at the same time to share this email with you. I'm proud that Aaron and Travis are more about doing things the right way than about just trying to win. I am saddened because I know that Aaron would have and will some day make a tremendous impact in elected office.

Dear Friend,

I want to thank you for your help and support in my campaign for Congress of Indiana's 9th Congressional District. My special thanks go to you who have worked to spread the message of freedom and advance our Hoosier values of limited government, strong national defense and traditional moral values.

After much prayer and consideration I have decided to suspend my 2008 campaign. I came to a point in my campaign where I had a decision to make: either focus on winning an election for a short term gain or leading and building a movement for the long term.

There simply was not enough time to do it the right way in 2008. The right way is door to door campaigning and citizen based governance. The wrong way is non stop fundraisers with special interests who always have strings attached.

Americans are tired of politics and tired of career politicians. Our nation is longing for citizen legislators and statesmen who will put first serving the people and doing what is right for the future of America over their own personal gain.

Nothing proved this more than the thousands of Hoosier voters I talked with personally throughout Southern Indiana who voiced their concerns regarding our nation's broken government. It has been the joy of my life to discuss with and listen to the issues and stories of my neighbors.

These personal stories all painted the same picture: Americans want to raise their family in a safe community, they want to see our moral values strengthened by allowing parents and local communities to have control over our children's education, they want to end corruption and careerism in our nation's capital, and above all, they want a government that is fiscally disciplined with our hard earned tax dollars while being accountable and responsive to the people.

There is more to leadership than merely winning elections at all cost. Leadership is about serving the people, changing hearts and minds and inspiring others to make a difference. True change is not going to take place inside our nation's capital, but rather it will take place in the Heartland when we the people take a stand together for what is right for America.

As you know, time flies and another election is right around the corner. Therefore, Travis and I will continue to provide Conservative Leadership and we need your help with future endeavors through your support and prayers. We will keep you updated on our future plans and what we will be doing to ensure that our conservative principles of limited government, strong national defense and traditional moral values win in Southern Indiana.

There is much work that must be done and I am confident that together we will be able to renew the American Dream.

This is not "Goodbye," rather this is "See you tomorrow…"

Carson Wins Special Election - Will Become 2nd Muslim in the House

Andre Carson, the Democratic candidate for his late grandmother Julia Carson's 7 th District seat in the House of Representatives, defeated Republican challenger John Elrod in a special election held on Tuesday.

Carson garnered 54 percent of the vote in Tuesday's election, compared to 43 percent for Elrod. The Libertarian candidate received the other 3 percent.

Julia Carson passed away in December 2007, and the special election was needed even though it causes some complicated issues for everyone involved.

Despite the outcome in the special election, both candidates will be running in their respective party's primary in May. Neither Carson nor Elrod will have an easy time as there are numerous challengers for each nomination.

Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Chris Van Hollen issued a statement congratulating Carson on his victory.

“I am grateful to the Congressional Black Caucus, Senator Evan Bayh and
Indiana’s Democratic Congressional Delegation for encouraging the people of this district to vote for change by supporting Andre Carson," Van Hollen said.

Carson, will become the 2nd person elected to the House of Representatives who has openly declared following the Muslim religion. Very little was mentioned of this fact during the campaign for the special election.

Carson, whose grandmother raised him in a Baptist church,converted to Islam more than a decade ago and will join Rep. KeithEllison, D-Minn., as the only Muslims in Congress. His religious identityhas drawn little attention during the campaign, and Carson says he doesn'tbelieve it hurts him politically.

"I'm a proud Hoosier," Carson said after his speech Tuesdaynight.
"I'm an Indy 500 Hoosier, I'm a Covered BridgeFestival Hoosier, I'm a Black Expo Hoosier, I'm a state fair Hoosier. I justhappen to be a Hoosier of the Muslim faith."

In an interview with WISH-TV in Indianapolis on Wednesday morning, Carson said that his swearing in ceremony will be tomorrow and will be small. No mention was made of whether Carson will use the Koran instead of the Bible as Rep. Ellison did when he took office.

FBI Sensitivity Training

The WorldNetDaily story below illustrates why we regularly point out how “political correctness” is aiding and abetting the advance of militant Islam in America.

One line is especially revealing:

“The [FBI] officials said terrorism is "not a new phenomenon" limited to Muslims, and they cited abortion-clinic bomber Eric Rudolph as an example of a Christian terrorist.”

The problem with this reasoning is that very few terrorist acts worldwide are perpetrated by Christians, whereas since 9/11 over 9,000 verifiable acts of terrorism have been perpetrated worldwide by Muslims.

Furthermore, nowhere in the New Testament are Christians exhorted to “smite infidels” or forcibly subjugate unbelievers, as is the case in the Qur’an and the Hadith.

To gloss over or rationalize Islamic terrorism by pointing to a handful of “Christian terrorists” is a revealing example of political correctness run amok in the FBI, a political correctness that some field agents tell us they vehemently disagree with.

FBI boosts training in Islamic 'sensitivity'

Weeks added to required 'enrichment' program: 'We all need to learn and understand each other'.

The FBI believes its agents still aren't sensitive enough to Muslims and their culture, so the bureau has extended by "a few weeks" its Islamic cultural "enrichment" training program, WND has learned.

During a recent outreach event at a Washington-area mosque, FBI officials also reassured a large turnout of concerned Muslims that the bureau is not profiling Arabs and Muslims for terrorism, and has made investigating alleged "hate crimes" against them and other minorities "the second-highest priority in the criminal division of the FBI." [emphasis added].

Among the officials who attended the Feb. 8 "town hall meeting" at the large ADAMS Center mosque were Timothy Healy, deputy assistant director for FBI intelligence, and Dave Bennett, assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's Washington field office.

Another Muslim In Congress?

When voters in Indiana's 7th Congressional District special election select the replacement for the late Julia Carson on Tuesday, there is a very good chance that there will be another Muslim member of Congress.

Andre Carson, grandson of the former representative who passed away on December 14th from lung cancer, is the Democratic favorite to replace his grandmother. What many people may not know is that Andre Carson is Muslim.

Ruthholladay.com reports that:

For the record: 7th District Dem candidate Andre Carson is "an Orthodox, universal, secular Muslim" who "frequently attends" services at Nur-Allah Islamic Center. That center is run by Imam Michael "Mikal" Saahir, an Indianapolis firefighter, and is located at 2040 E. 46th Street. The center is well-connected to the Indianapolis community. Nur-Allah, meaning "light of G-d," is active in interfaith endeavors, Habitat for Humanity and other worthy causes.

Later in the same article Holladay reports:

Carson is not a member of the Nation of Islam, he said. Nor does he attend services at a Nation of Islam mosque. This is important, because the Nation of Islam is, depending on which definition you want to go with, a militant black separatist movement that professes Islamic beliefs. Under the leadership of
Minister Louis Farrakhan of Chicago -- who spoke at the funeral of Rep. Julia
Carson, Andre's grandmother -- the NOI has a history of antisemitism.

Carson has received the endorsement of Indiana Senator Evan Bayh:

Indianapolis Councilman Andre Carson called for education reforms to empower
students who will be "competing for jobs" in a global economy as U.S. Sen. Evan
Bayh offered his endorsement in the March 11 special 7th CD election for the
Democratic grandson of the late U.S. Rep. Julia Carson at the Westin Hotel.

The winner of this special election will have to stay on the campaign trail, as there is a primary to compete for in May and then the regular election in November.

Carson has received the state and national Democratic establishment support for the special election, but doesn't have that support yet for the May primary.

Josh Kraushaar from Politico.com thinks that Carson's path against Republican State Representative Jon Elrod is just the beginning of a long, complex battle.

Kraushaar says:

And the unusual circumstances have Andre Carson, a member of
the Indianapolis City Council, under fire from both Democrats and Republicans as
the March 11 special election to fill the remainder of his grandmother’s term
approaches.

Carson faces a run against an upstart Republican state legislator with a record of recent political upsets in the special election — and then a more politically experienced pack of Democratic candidates in the May 6 primary for the November election to a full two-year term.

The result is an awkward relationship for Carson with his own party, to say the least.
While the state and national Democratic establishment have supported Carson as
he faces Republican state Rep. Jon Elrod in next month’s special election, they
haven’t yet endorsed him in the May 6 primary as he faces three well-known local
Democratic officials for the nomination to seek a full term representing the 7th
District.

With the circumstances as they are, there could be another Muslim in Congress after Tuesday's election, but the stay could be temporary..... time will tell.
