Following the news that Congress is not going to push for the extension of the offshore drilling ban, American Solutions General Chairman and former Speaker Newt Gingrich declared a milestone victory on behalf of the American people and the 1.5 million members of the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" movement.

Gingrich stated that lifting the offshore drilling ban is a first and essential step toward an affordable energy independent future. He went on to point out that while this was a tremendous victory for the American people who have been hurt by the high cost of gasoline and diesel, this victory was only the first step. "Congress now needs to create a comprehensive energy strategy," Gingrich said. "Lifting of the ban allows us to continue with the work of creating an affordable, self-reliant energy-independent future."

American Solutions has led the "Drill Here, Drill Now, Pay Less" movement that began with a petition drive urging Congress to allow for more drilling for oil and gas to provide Americans with relief from high fuel costs.

This petition drive, which began on May 20, resulted in nearly 1.5 million Americans signing the petition. Those signatures were delivered to the Congress and to both the Democratic and Republican national conventions.

American Solutions was able to bring together a broad coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and independents to get Congress to act. "It proves, once again, that when the American people come together, they can create dramatic and positive change," Gingrich said.

Over the course of American Solutions' effort to lower fuel costs, President Bush lifted the executive ban on offshore drilling, both presidential campaigns modified their opposition to offshore drilling and Congress, today, has concluded that in response to the overwhelming support for more drilling, decided to drop its opposition to renewing the Congressional offshore drilling ban.

In addition to drilling for more oil right here at home, American Solutions has advocated for an energy strategy that includes clean coal, nuclear, wind, solar, biofuels, flex-fuel cars, hydrogen, and prizes for technological breakthroughs for new ways to successfully toward affordable energy independence.

Homeland Security: In a sign background checks are far too lax, an alarming number of Arabs and Muslims have landed sensitive government jobs only to be caught later spying for the enemy.

Guarding against penetration by terrorist agents and sympathizers should be a top concern of public agencies, but it's not. Guarding against charges of job discrimination is.

Multiculturalism and political correctness have made it easier for the terrorists to use Arabs and Muslims to infiltrate the government and steal security secrets.

In the latest example, a former city 911 operator faces multiple felony counts for allegedly searching the names of friends and relatives on the FBI's terrorist watch list.

Nadire P. Zenelaj, an ethnic Albanian, says she's being singled out because she is Muslim. "I feel they targeted me because of my religion," she said.

No, she was investigated for looking up classified information on her confederates. At least one of the 227 names she checked was on the terrorist watch list, according to Rochester, N.Y., police.

A D.C.-area cop recently was convicted of doing the same thing.

Federal prosecutors say Fairfax County Police Sgt. Weiss Rasool, an Afghan immigrant, tipped off a fellow mosque member that he was under FBI investigation. When agents went to arrest the terrorist target early one morning they found him and his family already dressed and destroying evidence. They knew they had a mole and worked back through the system to find Rasool.

Thanks to post-9/11 data-sharing, local police like Rasool -- as well as first responders like Zenelaj -- now have access to classified FBI files on terror suspects maintained with the NCIC, or National Crime Information Center system.

Prosecutors said Rasool's actions "damaged the integrity of the NCIC system and jeopardized at least one federal investigation."

That's not all. In May, the Energy Department had to revoke the security clearance of an Egyptian-born nuclear physicist because of "conflicting allegiances." The FBI questioned Moniem El-Ganayni, also a Muslim prison chaplain, for allegedly inciting inmates to carry out jihad against the U.S., charges he denies.

Still, such questioning should've taken place before El-Ganayni got access to nuclear secrets. It's likely his extracurricular activities would have been enough of a red flag to bar his employment.

I know this topic has been written about from nearly every angle possible, and I know that pastors like Bill Keller have written on the topic, but I will be sharing my thoughts and feelings on this from a pastor's prospective.

I can tell you that I was thoroughly disgusted that obama would pass this off that everyone has disagreed with their pastor, rabbi, or priests at one time or another. This isn't about disagreement, this about possible blasphemy - to say God D..N America from any place, but much less the pulpit - and to get cheers from the congregation......

Well, I think you can see that I am a little more than worked up over this and I will share in depth about it right here in a day or two. Until then, it's my belief that this man should quit worrying about America and be praying that he hasn't committed the unforgivable sin!

We Haven't Gone Anywhere!

I realize there hasn't been many posts lately, but we are still in business (so to speak) here at Do The Right Thing!

I just want everyone from Mrs. CP and my family to the Cyber Crew to my other blogger friends to everyone who just drops by, to know that you are very important to me.

I pray that during this Holy Week, you will take the time to know that if you do not know the Lord, Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, you will take the time to examine what Jesus did for all of us.

As John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world that he gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life!"

Another Muslim In Congress?

When voters in Indiana's 7th Congressional District special election select the replacement for the late Julia Carson on Tuesday, there is a very good chance that there will be another Muslim member of Congress.

Andre Carson, grandson of the former representative who passed away on December 14th from lung cancer, is the Democratic favorite to replace his grandmother. What many people may not know is that Andre Carson is Muslim.

Ruthholladay.com reports that:

For the record: 7th District Dem candidate Andre Carson is "an Orthodox, universal, secular Muslim" who "frequently attends" services at Nur-Allah Islamic Center. That center is run by Imam Michael "Mikal" Saahir, an Indianapolis firefighter, and is located at 2040 E. 46th Street. The center is well-connected to the Indianapolis community. Nur-Allah, meaning "light of G-d," is active in interfaith endeavors, Habitat for Humanity and other worthy causes.

Later in the same article Holladay reports:

Carson is not a member of the Nation of Islam, he said. Nor does he attend services at a Nation of Islam mosque. This is important, because the Nation of Islam is, depending on which definition you want to go with, a militant black separatist movement that professes Islamic beliefs. Under the leadership of
Minister Louis Farrakhan of Chicago -- who spoke at the funeral of Rep. Julia
Carson, Andre's grandmother -- the NOI has a history of antisemitism.

Carson has received the endorsement of Indiana Senator Evan Bayh:

Indianapolis Councilman Andre Carson called for education reforms to empower
students who will be "competing for jobs" in a global economy as U.S. Sen. Evan
Bayh offered his endorsement in the March 11 special 7th CD election for the
Democratic grandson of the late U.S. Rep. Julia Carson at the Westin Hotel.

The winner of this special election will have to stay on the campaign trail, as there is a primary to compete for in May and then the regular election in November.

Carson has received the state and national Democratic establishment support for the special election, but doesn't have that support yet for the May primary.

Josh Kraushaar from Politico.com thinks that Carson's path against Republican State Representative Jon Elrod is just the beginning of a long, complex battle.

Kraushaar says:

And the unusual circumstances have Andre Carson, a member of
the Indianapolis City Council, under fire from both Democrats and Republicans as
the March 11 special election to fill the remainder of his grandmother’s term
approaches.

Carson faces a run against an upstart Republican state legislator with a record of recent political upsets in the special election — and then a more politically experienced pack of Democratic candidates in the May 6 primary for the November election to a full two-year term.

The result is an awkward relationship for Carson with his own party, to say the least.
While the state and national Democratic establishment have supported Carson as
he faces Republican state Rep. Jon Elrod in next month’s special election, they
haven’t yet endorsed him in the May 6 primary as he faces three well-known local
Democratic officials for the nomination to seek a full term representing the 7th
District.

With the circumstances as they are, there could be another Muslim in Congress after Tuesday's election, but the stay could be temporary..... time will tell.

I just wanted to give a State of "Do The Right Thing" post and since it's the beginning of a new month I thought it was a good time.

Please know that everything I say in this post is meant to bring glory and honor to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and none of the credit goes to those who are part of this, but to Him from which all good things come!

The word "I" around here has changed to more "we" than "I". The Cyber Crew of Dean, Garry, Roger M., Susan, and Bert have helped develop our blog into a team effort, and not just a solo project.

I didn't exactly tell them this when I invited them to be a part of the "Crew", but in my mind I had two things for anyone I was going to invite to be a part of the team: 1) they had to be a Christian, and 2) they had to be a conservative.

Obviously, they all meet that criteria or I wouldn't have made the offers, and I am so blessed that each one has accepted.

I want to include another person who isn't an "official Crew" member and that is Mark. He is a dear friend, meets all the above listed characteristics, supports us, and helps me when I'm lost (which, is more than I care to admit). Mark is part of another blog team that is one of the most successful in the blogesphere, and I'm proud that he is our friend.

Another thing that I need to point out is that as a group, we have moved from just being a blog into more of a ministry focus.

Do The Right Thing Radio at Blog Talk Radio has now been on the air four times. Our focus there isn't political in nature, but it is a Christian outreach featuring prayer, music, scripture, a short devotion, and the opportunity for those who need prayer to seek it and actually be prayed over while on the air, and afterwards as well.

The entire Cyber Crew, along with Mark and Mrs. CP have all worked to get this ministry up and running. We are already seeing postive results as we are meeting new people and praying with and for people that we never even knew 3 weeks ago.

Let me share some numbers with you.

On the blog side, February was the ranked as the 3rd highest month for visits to this blog. However, the 2 months that were higher both had 31 days. Given two more days, February would have been very close and posssibly even the best month this blog has had, and as far as comments, February was the number 1 month in blog history (and that's even with me deleting an entire thread of comments).

On the BTR side of things,

Show 1 - Live listeners: 20; Archive listeners: 26; Total: 46 Monday (11:00 pm)

Show 2 - Live listeners: 17; Archive listeners: 24; Total: 41 Thursday (2:00 pm)

The Show 4 archive numbers should continue to grow as that's been the case with all the other shows.

Being new at this, we don't know if we are doing good statistically or not, but we do know we are planting seeds for Christ!

Bottom line, God is blessing our work in a wonderful way right now. For those of you who are devout Christians, you know that is when the enemy works the hardest, so please pray that we are able withstand all attacks.

Again, all glory for what God is doing through us, goes to HIM as we are just mere servants to our Master!

I have been trying to track down a way to email Daniel Gilyeat and this is one of the only ones i could find where i could leave a message. I would just like to say THANK YOU!!!! My cousin was in the army and lost his life over in Iraq on Jan.27,2004. Your story touched my heart! So thank you to not only you but everyone who currently is or has served our great country.

Message from Cyber Pastor

Just a quick note to update you on my dear friend, Pastor Jerry Travis. Two of my pastor friends and I have visited Jerry and his family every day but Wednesday this week. We are watching him slowly get worse, and expect to get "the call" literally at any moment.

If Jerry makes it through another night, we will be back to visit him again in the morning.

Being on the road an hour and a half each way to the hospital where Jerry is, along with the time we spend with him hasn't left much time for blogging, and most of the things I've done are just copying things for other websites, but the election posts involving those about men from Iraq Vets for Congress are very important!

I also want to thank Dean for getting in a post for me on his trip to Berkeley and giving us a first hand report.

Please don't forget that Do The Right Thing Radio starts Monday at 11:00 pm Eastern time. Pray for God's will to be accomplished with this new endeavor.

Praying for a Friend and Brother

Many of you know, that I've been asking for prayer for a really good friend of mine, Pastor Jerry Travis. Last night, 3 of my pastor friends and I went to be with Jerry's family as they called everyone in to make some of those decisions that no one ever wants to have to make.

My friends and I got home around 12:30 am and the news this morning is that he made it through the night, but the doctors are saying 24 hrs to 3 days is all they are giving him.

It's difficult to lose another close friend and pastor, and I'm still holding out for a MIRACLE - but if the Lord decides to take Jerry home, he will get his reward for being a faithful servant!

My friends and I are headed back up to the hospital tonight and will probably spend the night with the family, so blogging is way down on the list of things-to-do.

I'm not sure if the Cyber Crew (the new name for the folks who write here) have anything ready or not, but check back in and continue to support us, even if there isn't much new here. The comments lately have been great and maybe you can keep that up.

Pence eyed as McCain's running mate

In Friday's Columbus (IN) Republic Newspaper

U.S. Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., said he was humbled to read Friday in a Wall
Street Journal opinion column that he would make a good running mate for
presidential candidate Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Politicians on the state and local levels said the 48-year-old Pence would be a good fit on the ticket, and it would be exciting if the GOP vice presidential candidate hailed from Columbus.

The last Hoosier to hold that level of power in the White House was Dan Quayle, the former U.S. House and Senate member who served as vice president under George H.W. Bush. He was one of five Hoosiers to serve as vice president.

Pat Toomey, a former Republican congressman from Pennsylvania, wrote that McCain is the party's likely nomination for president, even though his policies have been at odds with conservative Republicans.

McCain would be wise to name a fiscal conservative as his running mate to unite Republicans, said Toomey, president of Club for Growth, a political action committee that raises money for Republicans who support a lower-tax, limited-government agenda.

Follow-up to The Gipper Story

Reading comments on here and on other blogs, I feel the need to clarify some things.

1) I am not jumping up and down for joy that McCain is going to be our nominee. I'm just facing reality. McCain IS going to be our nominee. For those who can't stomach the thought of voting for McCain, or think that voting for him is no different than voting for the other side, I'm going to vehemently disagree. Of course there is no guarantee on how CIC McCain will fight the GWOT, I believe we do know how the other side will lead.

2)To continue to list all the negatives of Senator McCain is preaching to the choir. I don't like it any more than those who are yelling the loudest. Snooper said it a while back, if it comes to this then "We're Screwed". Guess what.......

3)Even our best presidents were not perfect. Reagan was the last president to grant amnesty to illegals, and GWB tried. I AM NOT comparing McCain to either (read #1 and #2), but this is the hand we have been dealt. I wish with all my heart we could change it ------ WE CAN"T!

4)The system is broken and we need to try to get it fixed. When all the decent candidates have dropped out before we have had a state no larger than South Carolina having voted, then there are problems. Too late for '08, but let's see what we can do for '12.

5)Finally, we need to start identifying a strong conservative (maybe Gilmore? Allen? Others?) but we can't wait until the primaries to decide who to back.

I said this and Snooper and others are preaching this too. It's not too late to get conservatives elected in Congress, State, and Local elections. So, I will stay with what I said in the other post - we NEED to win the one for "The Gipper" (which includes those of us who loved his ideals)!

Announcing Do The Right Thing Radio

Ok, the wait is over and I'm happy to announce that I will be hosting "Do The Right Thing Radio" on Blog Talk Radio beginning on February 18th. Lot's of prayer and contemplation went into this and I'm very excited that this is where the Lord has led me.

This will not be what many of us are used to on BTR. There are already plenty of outstanding conservative political BTR programs. I couldn't come close to doing the job that some are already doing.

Let me share what I envision this program to be. My ideas include: either a short message or devotional, time for prayer, open line prayer requests, some political topics, exposing Islam, religious and political problems, promoting the Presidential Prayer Team, etc.

I am open to suggestions, as this is still a concept is the works. I will share details with you as I finalize them.

I am asking for your prayer and support, and it's 12 days to go time!

OK it is now officially Wednesday in the eastern time zone and time to make my big announcement, but I didn't sleep much the last couple of nights and the news will have to wait until I wake up; (B)ut (T)he (R)ight things are worth the wait.

It's Almost Time To Let The Cat Out of The Bag

Well, it's been fun reading all the different guesses on what the big announcement I am going to reveal this week will be.

Wednesday will be the day that the rest of the world will know what I announced to my Do The Right Thing contributors late last week. (No torturing them for the answer please).

While there are some good guesses, nobody has come close to (B)eing (T)he (R)ight one to come up with the answer.

Keeping a secret is tough business, and I've even received threats of my email inbox being flooded with corny Bible jokes if I don't reveal the information.

Lord willing, I will reveal something that is very exciting to me and has gotten great moral support from all the Do The Right Thing regular contributors on Wednesday. I hope it doesn't disappoint - I don't think it will.

In Memory of Rev. Ron Thomas - Rest in Peace

In my job, you never know what is going to happen or when it is going to happen. After enjoying the Giants victory over the Patriots in the Super Bowl, my doorbell rang at 1:15 am. It was a volunteer fireman notifying me that the local United Methodist Minister had coded, and as the police department chaplain, they asked me to go and be with the wife.

My wife and I immediately went down the street (his church and our church are only about 3 blocks apart). My friend the minister had already left by ambulance, and his wife was trying to get herself ready but was having a difficult time even getting her thoughts together, much less driving herself to the hospital.

Mrs. CP and I was with Sandy from that point on, and I'm sorry to say that my friend and fellow pastor, Rev. Ron Thomas didn't make it.

We didn't get home until about 4:15, and it's safe to say that blogging will probably be low on my list of things to do later today - right now though I'm wide awake and winding down, so I wanted to post this tribute.

Please pray for Sandy, their 3 daughters, and their grandchildren, as well as the congregation at the Hope United Methodist Church.

Ron, I'm sure you've received your first tour of heaven, welcome home my friend! He is the man on the left of the picture with the Garfield tie on - that was Ron.

Super Bowl Prediction! - Update Below

OK, my Colts didn't make it this year, but they still are the reigning Super Bowl champions until tomorrow night.

I hate to say this, but my prediction is a New England blowout of the Giants.

There is going to have to be some serious scoring in the 2nd half for me to be close to my prediction.
