Red Skelton's Pledge of Allegiance

Some of you may be old enough to remember this man. For years he entertained us with his wit, his charm, and the antics of Clem Kadiddlehopper.

It was a rare Friday night with the family that we didn't gather around the only television we owned to watch his show. It was black and white with a small screen. The sound wasn't always good and sometimes the picture would fade but it was great entertainment despite a few glitches.

Homemade popcorn, rootbeer floats, and family. Life was good.

He always ended his shows by saying, "Good night and God bless." Imagine what the ACLU would have to say about that.
Red Skelton was one of a kind and unfortunately I doubt we will ever see anything like this on television ever again.

This video of him was a show he did on January 14, 1969. His rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance has twice been read into the Congressional Record and received numerous awards.
The end of the video is prophetic perhaps. You be the judge.
