New Feature at Do The Right Thing (Updated)

Doing a post entitled Win One For The Gipper, gave me an idea so I ran it past all of the contributors here at Do The Right Thing. Let me share the email and the responses.

I was on YouTube, and there are tons of great Ronald "The Gipper" Reagan videos. I was thinking of posting a series of them on the blog. I know there are a couple of schools of thought on this. Some think that there will never be (probably won't) another Gipper so quit bringing him up. Another (mine) is to keep fresh in people's minds what a true Conservative is.

Comments, suggestions, disagreements are all ok.

Ronaldus Maximus was not perfect (gasp!) re: immigration and the amnesty thingie. BUT... he was as close as it gets to being right for the time, and would also be right for this time. He had a knack for being able to maintain a clear view of the big picture and not getting lost in the details. The American public have had pitifully few iconic politicians worthy of being remembered for what they were able to accomplish.


So, with all those great minds in agreement I've posted the first video already. I thought it was interesting that Carter is talking about government healthcare!!!!

Follow-up to The Gipper Story

Reading comments on here and on other blogs, I feel the need to clarify some things.

1) I am not jumping up and down for joy that McCain is going to be our nominee. I'm just facing reality. McCain IS going to be our nominee. For those who can't stomach the thought of voting for McCain, or think that voting for him is no different than voting for the other side, I'm going to vehemently disagree. Of course there is no guarantee on how CIC McCain will fight the GWOT, I believe we do know how the other side will lead.

2)To continue to list all the negatives of Senator McCain is preaching to the choir. I don't like it any more than those who are yelling the loudest. Snooper said it a while back, if it comes to this then "We're Screwed". Guess what.......

3)Even our best presidents were not perfect. Reagan was the last president to grant amnesty to illegals, and GWB tried. I AM NOT comparing McCain to either (read #1 and #2), but this is the hand we have been dealt. I wish with all my heart we could change it ------ WE CAN"T!

4)The system is broken and we need to try to get it fixed. When all the decent candidates have dropped out before we have had a state no larger than South Carolina having voted, then there are problems. Too late for '08, but let's see what we can do for '12.

5)Finally, we need to start identifying a strong conservative (maybe Gilmore? Allen? Others?) but we can't wait until the primaries to decide who to back.

I said this and Snooper and others are preaching this too. It's not too late to get conservatives elected in Congress, State, and Local elections. So, I will stay with what I said in the other post - we NEED to win the one for "The Gipper" (which includes those of us who loved his ideals)!

Time To Win One for The Gipper!

OK, John McCain will probably never be mistaken for Ronald Wilson Reagan, but it's now time to win this election for The Gipper. Reagan Conservatism may be dead to some people, but to us die-hard Reagan Conservatives it's time to "Do The Right Thing" and get behind Senator John McCain and win this election.

I was going to write this post anyway, but I just saw Snooper's post and decided to go ahead and write this before going to bed.

There are a ton of things I could talk about in this column, but I'm going to link to several different posts from some of my friends like Spree, another from Snooper, comments on this blog, from Michelle Malkin, another from Michelle Malkin, Amy Procter, and several at Grizzly Groundswell.

I gained a ton of respect for Mitt Romney for dropping out for not only the good of the party, but more importantly the good of the nation.

McCain must win this election! Why, you ask? Thank you and let me answer with this:

The Government War on Terror MUST be continued/won and McCain is the only choice to run that war. Plain, simple, end of story (well almost).

The spread of Islamofacism in the world and more importantly stopping it here in America, it the greatest threat to our society today. We cannot "give" them 4 - 8 years of advantage by electing someone weak on this subject, ie barak hussein obama, and hilary rodham clinton (for those of you who don't know, I refuse to capitalize the names of those who disrespect our troops).

Voting for McCain is difficult for many of us to swallow! But from this point forward you will not hear me bash our future Commander-in-Chief; oh, I'm sure I will disagree and question (I have with Bush), but the liberal machine is going to bash our candidate enough, and it's time to get busy and get the RIGHT people elected.

I think we "owe" that to The Gipper, our children, grandchildren, and all future generations!

Anniversary of Roe v. Wade: 35 Years of Destruction

Since the inception of legalized abortion by Roe v. Wade in 1973, approximately 50 million innocent unborn lives have been ended. Every day nearly 4,000 lives are destroyed in the womb by abortion. To give you a picture, those children total more than every student in my three local high schools combined.

In the midst of our Presidential election year, it is hauntingly startling to think that the very first child whose life was ended by legalized abortion in Roe v. Wade would have turned 35 years old today, the exact age the Constitution declares Americans eligible to run for our nation's highest office.

We often complain how our choices for elected leaders are between the lesser of two evils. Nobody stops to ponder or complain about the evil that has made the pool of America's potential future leaders shallower.

Abortion has destroyed our nation's moral foundations and has led to our nation's broken government. Government was established for the sole purpose of protecting innocent life. Thomas Jefferson stated, "The chief purpose of government is to protect life. Abandon that and you have abandoned all."

Career politicians have abandoned all. They have abandoned our conservative principles for the lures of careerism. While Life is winning in the Heartland, it is losing in our nation's capital. Career politicians are not able to save unborn lives because they are too busy worrying about saving their own political lives.

We cannot go the way of communist nations where people's lives are at the mercy of their elite tyrannical government. Our federal government must restore the sanctity of Life and ensure that our unalienable rights of Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness is protected for all Americans, particularly the weakest and most vulnerable in our society: the unborn.

Despite the three and a half decades that have passed and the millions of lives that have been lost, there is still hope. People often ask, "Can one person make a difference?"

Those who are familiar with the Pro-Life movement and the history of abortion are profoundly convinced that one person can make a difference. Why are they so convinced? Because they know that the responsibility for the destruction caused by abortion in America lies largely in the hands of one individual: Margaret Sanger.

Margaret Sanger was the founder of Planned Parenthood, America's largest abortion provider. Sanger's horrific leadership was fueled by her radical politics of sexual liberation, Malthusian economics, and eugenics. She felt that abortion would be the best means of population control and the removal of "bad weeds" in society. Her politics advanced abortion rights and also led to the destruction of marriage, family, and standards of decency all across the globe. Her one life directly impacted the lives of millions of others, literally.

While one person's life and leadership can lead to death and destruction, other's lives and leadership has led to Life and liberty.

William Wilberforce dedicated his life in parliament to ending the British slave trade and restoring the humanity and dignity of millions of innocent lives. Wilberforce's leadership ignited the flame of liberty in the hearts of all decent, freedom loving men the world over and led to the abolition of the horrific injustice of slavery.

Ronald Reagan's life and leadership saved America and the world from the hands of communism. Reagan freed billions of enslaved people whose basic rights of Life and liberty were denied by ruling tyrants. He also strengthened our nation's economy and our American spirit, restoring America to a time of peace and prosperity.

These statesmen made a difference and had a profound influence and effect on the lives of millions of people. Their legacy continues to do so today, as does that of Margaret Sanger.
Let us this day, on the anniversary of the most destructive court decision in the history of America, dedicate our lives to freedom. We must choose whether we will stand for Life and be a voice for the voiceless or will we abandon all and accept the false idea that we can not make a difference.

We have no idea what these young lives that have been lost through legalized abortion would have accomplished if given the right to Life. Yet, we have been given Life and therefore have a responsibility as free Americans to protect this most fundamental and foundational freedom.
Let us begin this day forward to preserve Life and liberty.

As Usual - Rush is Right!!!

I did a daily email recapping Rush's show called "Rush in a Hurry". This was one of the items listed that Rush discussed today:

" McCain, Newt, Huckabee, and other Republicans are dead wrong: the Era of Reagan is not "over." Our principles are timeless. Conservatism Works: A Combative Thompson Sways Voters ".

The comments of those who say that about the Reagan era have made me scratch my head for a while now. It's not like The Gipper was in office 50 or 100 years ago, we are only coming up on the 20th anniversary of him leaving office soon. There are plenty of us Reaganites still kicking today. Maybe I'll have to pull out that 84 election map again here soon to show what happened when "Uncle Ronnie" last ran for office!

Way to go Rush, as usual you are RIGHT!

So I can agree that my Deciblez!!! have been nowhere near Daily recently, but I am happy to say that I have finished the homework for my latest class, and maybe I will be able to do some other things.

Notice I didn't say I wouldn't be busy, it's the middle of December and who isn't busy during this time of year.

I wanted to mention a couple of things before I list my most recent posts at Do The Right Thing.

I belong to a group of Conservatives called "Patriots for Conservative Values". This group comes from all over the U.S. and while we don't always agree on everything.

Several of the people in this group have blogs of their own, and I'm proud to associate with such a wonderful group of highly ethical members of the "new media". We have several people who do intense research into the topics they post about, and one of the things about doing this is that you rarely have to go back and correct or apologize for printing something erroneous, but I am sure that each of these people of high morals would do so if warranted.

That's one of the many things that our group of PFCV bloggers have that separate us from the MSM. Folks in PFCV I'm proud to be just a small part of our group of "Patriots" (ouch, that's tough to say when you are a Colts fan - but that's another subject).

Also, I would like to encourage each person who reads this to keep our military heroes in your prayers. While we are busy preparing for Christmas, tens of thousands of them are defending our freedoms all over the world. Say an extra prayer for them and their family as we approach Christmas with great anticipation.

1. All I Want for Christmas Is Hope - Isaiah 64:1-4

1 Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down, that the mountains would tremble before you!
2 As when fire sets twigs ablaze and causes water to boil, come down to make your name known to your enemies and cause the nations to quake before you!
3 For when you did awesome things that we did not expect, you came down, and the mountains trembled before you.
4 Since ancient times no one has heard, no ear has perceived, no eye has seen any God besides you, who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.

As Vice President, George Bush represented the U.S. at the funeral of former Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev. Bush was deeply moved by a silent protest carried out by Brezhnev’s widow. She stood motionless by the coffin until seconds before it was closed. Then, just as the soldiers touched the lid, Brezhnev’s wife performed an act of great courage and hope, a gesture that must surely rank as one of the most profound acts of civil disobedience ever committed: She reached down and made the sign of the cross on her husband’s chest.

There in the citadel of secular, atheistic power, the wife of the man who had run it all hoped that her husband was wrong. She hoped that there was another life, and that life was best represented by Jesus who died on the cross, and that the same Jesus might yet have mercy on her husband.

2. All I Want for Christmas Is Peace - Luke 2:8-14

The Shepherds and the Angels

8And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christthe Lord. 12This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14″Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.”

Duke University did a study on “peace of mind.” Factors found to contribute greatly to emotional and mental stability are: 1) the absence of suspicion and resentment. Nursing a grudge was a major factor in unhappiness. 2) Not living in the past. An unwholesome preoccupation with old mistakes and failures leads to depression. 3) Not wasting time and energy fighting conditions you cannot change. Cooperate with life, instead of trying to run away from it. 4) Force yourself to stay involved with the living world. Resist the temptation to withdraw and become reclusive during periods of emotional stress. 5) Refuse to indulge in self-pity when life hands you a raw deal. Accept the fact that nobody gets through life without some sorrow and misfortune. 6) Cultivate the old-fashioned virtues–love, humor, compassion and loyalty. 7) Do not expect too much of yourself. When there is too wide a gap between self-expectation and your ability to meet the goals you have set, feelings of inadequacy are inevitable. Find something bigger than yourself to believe in. Self-centered egotistical people score lowest in any test for measuring happiness.


3. All I Want for Christmas Is Joy - Matthew 1:18-25

The Birth of Jesus Christ

18This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about: His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit. 19Because Joseph her husband was a righteous man and did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

20But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

22All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: 23″The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”
-which means, “God with us.”

24When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his wife. 25But he had no union with her until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Author Leo Buscaglia tells this story about his mother and their “misery dinner.” It was the night after his father came home and said it looked as if he would have to go into bankruptcy because his partner had absconded with their firm’s funds. His mother went out and sold some jewelry to buy food for a sumptuous feast. Other members of the family scolded her for it. But she told them that “the time for joy is now, when we need it most, not next week.” Her courageous act rallied the family.

4. All I Want for Christmas Is a Savior - Luke 2:1-7

The Birth of Jesus

1In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world. 2(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.) 3And everyone went to his own town to register.4So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David. 5He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child. 6While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, 7and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Meaning no disrespect to the religious convictions of others, I still can’t help wondering how we can explain away what to me is the greatest miracle of all and which is recorded in history. No one denies there was such a man, that he lived and that he was put to death by crucifixion. Where…is the miracle I spoke of? Well consider this and let your imagination translate the story into our own time — possibly to your own home town. A young man whose father is a carpenter grows up working in his father’s shop. One day he puts down his tools and walks out of his father’s shop. He starts preaching on street corners and in the nearby countryside, walking from place to place, preaching all the while, even though he is not an ordained minister. He does this for three years. Then he is arrested, tried and convicted. There is no court of appeal, so he is executed at age 33 along with two common thieves. Those in charge of his execution roll dice to see who gets his clothing — the only possessions he has. His family cannot afford a burial place for him so he is interred in a borrowed tomb. End of story? No, this uneducated, propertyless young man who…left no written word has, for 2000 years, had a greater effect on the world than all the rulers, kings, emperors; all the conquerors, generals and admirals, all the scholars, scientists and philosophers who have ever lived — all of them put together. How do we explain that?…unless he really was who he said he was.”

America has much for which to be thankful. The unequaled freedom enjoyed by our citizens has provided a harvest of plenty to this nation throughout its history. In keeping with America's heritage, one day each year is set aside for giving thanks to god for all of His blessings. On this day of thanksgiving, it is appropriate that we recall the first thanksgiving, celebrated in the autumn of 1621. After surviving a bitter winter, the Pilgrims planted and harvested a bountiful crop. After the harvest they gathered their families together and joined in celebration and prayer with the Native Americans who had taught them so much. Clearly our forefathers were thankful not only for the material well being of their harvest but for this abundance of goodwill as well.In this spirit, Thanksgiving has become a day when Americans extend a helping hand to the less fortunate. Long before there was a government welfare program, this spirit of voluntary giving was ingrained in the American character. Americans have always understood that, truly, one must give in order to receive. This should be a day of giving as well as a day of thanks. As we celebrate Thanksgiving in 1981, we should reflect on the full meaning of this day as we enjoy the fellowship that is so much a part of the holiday festivities. Searching our hearts, we should ask what we can do sass individuals to demonstrate our gratitude to God for all He has done. Such reflection can only add to the significance of this precious day of remembrance.Let us recommit ourselves to that devotion to God and family that has played such an important role in making this a great Nation, and which will be needed as a source of strength if we are to remain a great people. Now, Therefore, I, Ronald Reagan, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim Thursday, November 26, 1981, as Thanksgiving Day. Statement by Fred Thompson on National Right to Life Endorsement

McLean, VA - Senator Thompson released the following statement today regarding the National Right to Life's endorsement of his candidacy for President:

"I'm deeply appreciative for the past support by the National Right to Life Committee-PAC in my Senate campaigns, and today I am blessed and grateful to have received their endorsement for President of the United States.

"In supporting me, those who have worked tirelessly to defend life are supporting a consistent conservative who has stood with them yesterday, who stands with them today, and will stand with them tomorrow."

Fred Thompson is pro-life. He believes in the sanctity of human life and that every life is worthy of respect. He had a 100% pro-life voting record in the Senate and believes Roe v. Wade was a bad decision that ought to be overturned. He consistently opposed federal funding to promote or pay for abortion and supported the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, the Child Custody Protection Act, and President Reagan's Mexico City policy. While Fred Thompson supports adult stem cell research, he opposes embryonic stem cell research. He also opposes human cloning.
