The City of Brotherly Like
By Jerry Brecheisen
So much for Philadelphia being the “City of Brotherly Love!” A recent travel magazine survey spotted feelings of ambivalence toward the city similar to the popularity of a Lawrence Welk baton collection. Words like unattractive, unfriendly, unaware, and unfit may describe the survey results, leaving the birthplace of steak sandwiches and American Bandstand looking more like the “City of Brotherly Like.”
Who would have thought that the backdrop for a hundred (more or less) “Rocky” films would look as bad as the fake bruise under the eye of the continual contender, played to the max by actor Sylvester Stallone? I hope he doesn’t hear about it. He is still recovering from the make-up residue of his last movie.
Who says one city is better than another! The residents may have a totally different perspective. God has built a city that is so far beyond inspection, it will embarrass the skeptic. And those who reside there by faith will live in love and acceptance a million years beyond the last ember of the farthest planet. By the way, your residence is ready and mortgage has been pre-paid. “In keeping with his promise we are looking forward to a new heaven and a new earth, the home of righteousness” (2 Peter 3:13 NIV).
