Today From the PPT - PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER REQUESTS FOR THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 1-7, 2007

President Bush offers congratulations to those who received the outstanding soldier awards during Basic Combat Training Graduation Ceremonies on November 2 at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. Fort Jackson is the largest and most active Initial Training Center in the U.S. Army, training an average of 50,000 soldiers per year. Pray for all those who train our troops, that they will be diligent and gracious in their efforts. Pray for our troops as they receive training and step into their positions of service, asking God to lead, strengthen and protect each one. Photo courtesy of the White House.

Pray for President Bush as on November 5 he honors the recently announced recipients of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the Nation's highest civil award. Give thanks for the incredible contribution made by each one, and pray for them to continue to inspire others to use their gifts to serve God’s purposes in the world.

Pray for President Bush as he welcomes to the White House President Nicholas Sarkozy of France on November 6-7 for his first visit here as President. President and Mrs. Bush will host President Sarkozy at a dinner at the White House on November 6, and on November 7 the two leaders will visit Mount Vernon, the historic home of George Washington, for further discussions. The two leaders will celebrate the deep historical bonds between our countries and will discuss security and democracy in Afghanistan, Iran’s nuclear program, peace in the Middle East, genocide in Darfur, fostering democratic change in Burma, forging a peaceful resolution in Kosovo, and further enhancing cooperation on counterterrorism and security and the promotion of democracy and freedom. Pray for God’s presence in these conversations and for the development of a fine and strong relationship.

Pray for Dr. James Peake, President Bush’s nominee to the cabinet post of Secretary of Veterans Affairs, asking God to strengthen him as he prepares to step up to this crucial position where he can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who have served America through military service. Pray also for him and for members of the Senate who will conduct his confirmation hearings. He is the first physician and the first General to serve in this post.

Pray for Ed Shafer, whom President Bush has nominated as the new Secretary of Agriculture, asking for wisdom and grace from God as he steps up to be the 29th secretary of this vital department. Pray for his confirmation hearings by the Senate. He is the former Governor of North Dakota, and the father of four.

Give thanks for the dedicated service of Karen Hughes, Undersecretary of State for Public Diplomacy, for her great dedication and significant accomplishments. She has announced her intent to retrun to private life in Texas. Pray for her as she seeks God’s will and purposes in her life.

As President Bush has expressed concern over the need for Congress to pass the current appropriations bills, pray for an resolution to the impasse and for a spirit of cooperation and conciliation for both houses before the end of the year.

Pray for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice as she travels to Ankara, for bilateral meetings with President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. November 2-3 she will be in Istanbul, Turkey to meet with other world leaders on Iraq and will travel to Jerusalem and Ramallah November 4-6 to continue discussions with Israeli and Palestinian leaders seeking to prepare the way for further negotiations. She will deliver remarks at the Saban Forum on November 4. Pray for God’s presence and power to be manifested in each of her meetings. Pray for her protection and strength, and for God’s will to be done.

Michael Mukasey is President Bush’s nominee for the post of Attorney General. Though his confirmation was progressing well, questions have now been raised about his views on torture. Pray for wisdom for members of the Senate who will vote on his confirmation, asking that God’s will is done in His time.

As the wildfires in Southern California are mostly under control, we must pray for those who now face devastating loss and daunting tasks to recover and rebuild. Pray for encouragement and strength for every victim and community impacted. Santa Ana winds are predicted to kick up again this weekend; pray that fires will be extinguished before then, and winds calmed.

As the news has come that casualties of both troops and civilians in Iraq are down by huge margins, let us give resounding, heartfelt thanks to God for answered prayer! Pray that violence will continue to diminish and that the peace of God will reign over the city of Baghdad and the nation of Iraq. Pray for hope to be rekindled, for jobs to be created and for the economy to begin its recovery so people can return to normal.

Pray for the crew of Space Shuttle Discovery as they continue to make needed repairs and additions to the International Space Station. They may stay in space one additional day in order to conduct an additional space walk to repair a problem found this week.

Pray for continued protection against the deadly staph infection MSRA which is impacting communities across the country. Pray for its eradication and for communities, hospitals and schools to be diligent and wise as they take precautions against it.

Give thanks for our military and their loved ones as daily they sacrifice comfort, convenience and security in order to serve the cause of freedom and democracy. Pray for those who are nearing the end of their deployment that they will be kept safe and will have God’s protection as they prepare to return home. Pray for those just beginning their deployment as they face a long period away from home. Pray for all that they will have the powerful protection of God every moment.
